Coach O said he's a pro-style guy. Is that reason alone not to make him HC?

Back in September, O said this:
quote:

"We're going to be very multiple and I'm still a pro-style guy," he said.

I don't see any hope of beating Bama unless we have an infusion of innovative offense. Of which, neither Ensminger or Orgeron showed us in the Alabama game. If O is cut from pro-style material, there's no real hope of him moving his strategy too far from his circle of comfort. Is that reason enough to deny him a chance at head coach?

The issue is the Pro-Style had changed over the last decade or so. Turn on your TV on Sundays. The days of lining up under center 90% of the time are long gone.

it is

we went from a 30 year old offense to a 15 year old offense

Yeah it's an improvement but it's still behind the curve. O isn't even an offensive guy either so we're looking at a coach who just has USC's playbook from the early 2000's and is going to run it like he's playing Tecmo Bowl. This seems okay because the last joker was SO arcane, but 125 yards against Bama says it all. Everyone else we have played has had a swiss cheese defense.

This is it in a nutshell. The big issue is we don't have a QB to run anything else. If a coach like Jimbo or Herman come in here and get their hands on guys like Scott, Narcisse (if he comes here) & Brennan that would be cause for great optimism.

If you listen to O you do get that distinct impression. He's Pete Carroll fan from that era. I really want O to be part of the Tigers. But, I believe he is performing at the top of his curve right now, and we need more than that.

Relax - Ponamsky has been reading all the message board and now they realize LSU fans wold prefer the spread. Time to flip the scrip again and tell them what they want to hear.
