He's too dependent on his coordinators and I don't think he has a true coaching identity (X's and O's) of his own yet so I'll pass. He would be a wildly inconsistent coach in the long term.

Let's remember Miles for a second. If one has to keep asking "what's his true coaching specialty?" You may end up with problems in the long haul.

organizing , motivating, recruiting, and knowing when and how to let your assistant coaches do their things. What a CEO is supposed to do.

The only thing listed that Miles didn't do was letting his assistant coaches Coach

What happens when we get a shitty OC/DC?They give him 3 years to get his shite together while LSU losing more games than it should

A good coordinator is hard to keep and bad coordinator is hard to get rid of

If he can bring in top talent, I'd have to believe LSU could always pay to have top Coordinators.

Most Money does not always mean the best coordinators

We just had the highest paid OC in the conference and couldn't throw on our route

Unlike Miles, O will do what it takes to win. He will not tolerate mediocrity and will adapt the system to fit his players.

That's a straw man argument. Good teams with bad coordinators don't win or play well whether it's a Saban or Meyer coached team. If your point would be if your HC can choose the right OCs and DCs if they have that authority, then you would have a legit argument. I also don't buy this push to have a coordinator/HC. I want my coordinators to do their hob and let the HC do his. Yes, the HC should have input to game plan if he chooses.

I'm a long way from sold on O, but those that think Herman or anyone else is going to wander in and start collecting crystal balls are fooling themselves.

Personally, I don't think this conversation is worth having right now. The O supporters are high from a win against Ole Miss and the Herman supporters have to defend a loss to SMU.

The fact is, neither one of those games is a testament to their coaching abilities. We don't know how good Ole Miss is. They're 3-4 right now and may not make a bowl. The SMU loss looks bad, but we still can't look at it and say "Ha! Herman is a bad coach!". That's a bull shite knee jerk reaction.

I will say this, I don't think Coach O is a bad coach anymore and I think he will get a job somewhere. Some coaches could have come into this situation and completely fricked things up for us and he didn't. I think we have a shot to compete in every game and that's awesome. But I will not say right now that he's the best choice for us. I also think there are many coaches out there who could have come into this situation and done just as good, IMO.

He's right for our current scenario, I can't say he's right for us long term.

3-21 seems like he accepted way less than mediocre

well we have Ensiminger and Aranda right now. Keep those two. Of course got to see how the season plays out. Like some one said, to early in the season to have this conversation.

Yeah because LSU is only avg like 41 pts a game since he took over. Which would put them around the 12th best in the country in scoring offense. SMH

It's hard not to get excited. O actually has a coaching tree with Hugh Freeze as his lone Charlie Brown Christmas branch.

That might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Good coaches are dependent upon their assistants

Good Presidnts are dependent upon their advisories

Good owners are dependent upon their managers, and good managers are dependent upon their assistant managers,

It's how people become good, even great. You hired them for a reason. Let them do their job. If not, then you don't have subordinates. You have fall guys, and if you can't trust the people you hired, exactly what does that say about your decision making abilities by hiring them in the first place?

NO... Poor managers in life try to micromanage and do it all themselves. That was Coach O's problem at Ole Miss. He admitted it himself, and there's another mark of a good coach/manager. They learn from the mistakes they have in life.

ensigmer has been dam near perfect. Pretty much everything we been looking for in an OC. If anything, people were complaining at certain points last night that the offense was to wide open.

Uhh that's not exactly a small tidbit. That is likely the difference between a team around . 500 and a conference contender

Or given LSU's track record of paying very well for assistants they get a great coordinator and O keeps organizing and bringing in blue chip studs for him to mold to his side of the ball?

Why? The offense has been fantastic under his watch to this point.
