At least this made holding on to Shannon a lot easier.

I don't know how jacked I'd be if I was Buckeye fan. Makes for a easy move up for Randy Shannon you would think.

Ash is a very good DC and it sucks losing him but at least we can stop holding our breath whenever somebody offers Randy Shannon a DC job again. We just promote him and hire a good recruiter to coach safeties. Ash and Shannon weren't the best recruiters anyway so it shouldn't really hurt us much. It sucked because this is crazy out of the blue but it's not that bad.

It would be nice to have continuity but this doesn't feel like a huge blow. At least not yet.

Shannon seems like a shoe-in for DC. I really can't imagine not promoting him, seems like that would guarantee he'd walk ASAP.

Did Akry fans like Ash? I know it was only 1 season, but what did you like/dislike about his scheme?

you can't mask terrible personnel, no matter the scheme... arkansas had far and away the worst back seven in the West and possibly the SEC.

Ash is a good coach and solid recruiter... Beilema put together a heck of a staff this time last year, but he's already lost two key pieces to the puzzle on defense with partridge and ash.

Ash is a great coach. Feel bad for Arky.

I think he's a good coach and would have turned our defense around with time. It was statistically very bad this year but that was more of a personnel issue in my opinion due to our previous staffs lack of recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. However, he was definitely a below average recruiter at Arkansas. I'm sure he will look better in that department at tOSU where it is much easier to recruit but that was my biggest concern about him here.

Good hire for tOSU, but means we get Shannon as DC now.

Had terrible personnel and no depth to work with. Made us better fundamentally, but these Big Ten guys always scare me because they seem to have a tough time adjusting to the speed and openness of SEC football.

Scheming a defense against Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue does not equal scheming against Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Auburn. Perhaps that's why Bert let him walk, seeing as how we won a bidding war against Bama to keep Pittman.

Didn't Burt leave tB1G because he couldn't keep his assistant coaches?
