Jimbo, because if he did come back that means he really loves it here and probably wouldn't leave within a few years..

Chip, you never know, he could wind up just not caring for the south or have bigger dreams again say in the NFL..

That is my number one. Jimbo is a monster recruiter, and I realize Chip would attract recruits.. but Jimbo attracts big time recruits on BOTH sides of the ball.

I just think it would speak volumes for Jimbo to come back

So has Les Miles

Within the past 2 years.. and went to the playoffs last season

he went two straight seasons undefeated

Jimbo also has never lost a bowl game aside from the playoff loss last season

Jimbo would be the safest bet i think. I would imagine he would bring a more balanced team overall and a great defense to go with a very good offense.

Kelly on the otherhand has more upside, i honestly think he could be the next saban, and he, matched with this LSU roster and future recruits COULD BE dynasty in the making. There is also a slight chance that his style could clash with the SEC.

so im saying 1a. Jimbo, 1b. Kelly

but they are both way above my 'HELL YES' meter...

Going from Les who has trouble with a 60 minute clock to Chip who supposedly is an analytics and big data man would make my head spin. Not sure how he would recruit with regard to the warm and fuzzy stuff, but I think that in college recruiting analytics will be revolutionary and he might give Saban a run with talent identification. Also the in game application of statistics would be mind boggling. I said many times that the smartest move that Miles could ever make would be to hire a statistics GA, give him the rule book and focus only on giving instant advice on "time related issues" like when to call timeouts, when to clock the ball, etc.

Tough choice.

Both big splashes

Chip more of a splash

Easier to keep Jimbo

Would it be all bad if KELLY left after 5 years of pure adrenaline and W's - nope

But for some reason I think Jimbo coming back would say what we have always said. This place is special. It would continue that story going ( Arnsparger tells Saban , Miles has come to call it home , Jimbo just couldn't live without it ) and I like a strong running game with some diversity and the tailback taking the ball 6 yards back and off tackle 15 or so time a game with the great balance of a strong dropback passing attack . With a defense that will dominate. I think that is what LSU stands for and what Jimbo does . So a part of KELLY scares me but in fairness I have not watched his teams as much as I have Jimbo .... And the memory of Dallas and the ducks makes me think twice also

To me its who do you think can beat Saban? I think Chip has a better shot due to pulling ol Nick out of his comfort zone.

i'd need to consult a medical professional after about 4 hours of either being announced but if i had to choose one, give me jimbo.

jimbo knows this place, recruits. fields complete teams, and has the hardware as an assistant and head man. knows what it takes to win this league and knows that guy in alabama that our fans love to hate pretty damn well.

I would hate for LF to lose his last season trying to fit into a Kelly offense. Jimbo would make him a Heisman winner.

That is a microcosm of why I prefer Jimbo. This team is built for him to immediately win, and his SE recruiting is a huge plus. Not to mention having a guy that has already loved being a Tiger and still has that in his heart is a huge draw for me.

That being said, I wouldn't consider Chip anything less than a huge get either.

Pretty sure LF would be an absolute monster in Kelly's offense.

Even if he was not, Are we really going to pick a coach based on a guy that will be here for 1 more year anyway?

Jimbo he has a lot of old relationships already established. He seem to fit in with the culture better. He already knows LSU as he has coached here before. IMO he is the best coach out of the two.

I'm sure Chip would be good here also just don't know as much about him. With that said either coach would be a home run hire.

This is what I posted in another thread, and it works here.

Jimbo checks every box on the list

- QB mastermind
- Offensive genius
- Actually wants a defense
- Has won a national championship
- Has won his division 4 of 6 years and conference 3 of 6 years (last 3 in a row)
- Has heavy recruiting ties to Florida and has recruited Louisiana territory extensively
- Recruits national as per his time at Auburn, he used connects to lure Russell from Alabama. He did this again and lured Jameis Winston from Alabama to Florida St. Lured the top DE from Virginia last year, and many more
- Coached 7 years at LSU
- Runs a modern pro style offense that attacks every level of the defense. Since we already run pro style, it won't be a huge transition for us.
