When AU hired Van Gorder, I have to admit, I thought it was a really good hire. But they sucked so hard this year, it really makes me wonder. Who knows - maybe Chizik didn't give him full control of the Defense. Or maybe he sucks now. I dunno.

The Auburn D this year looked a lot like that garbage scheme the Falcons had been using the last few years. The one where you are completely prison fricked if the front 4 isn't dominating and the DBs are taught to never look for the ball.

BVG left shortly after Pollack, Grant, Thurman, Davis, Blue etc left... That had more to do with it than BVG leaving...

We went backwards as the year progressed. Fundamentals like tackling we're never addressed. We played in our base because either our players were too dumb to learn, or they weren't receiving any coaching. Honestly, I wanted everyone involved with our D gone. No excuses, even for BVG.

He was clearly only meant to coach in Athens and is now being punished for flicking off the football gods.

Remember when the 3 Auburn DBs all ran into each other trying to tackle Amari Cooper? Good times.
Is that what happened? I had eyes full of tears so I must've missed that part.

What was BVG's reputation as a recruiter? I honestly have no clue.

I know he isn't a DB...and I know this probably comes as no surprise...but I think Jake Holland was one of the culprits. In fact, I think he may be the one who tackled the other two.

He has a great eye for talent. Can spot a good defensive player anywhere. There's a story about him seeing Thomas Davis shooting around in a gym and he saw his athleticism and recruited him before he even saw him play football. I don't remember how he was convincing blue chippers to come to Athens but he knew how to evaluate.

Ole Jake. He's good for at least two WTF moments per game.

Crappy recruiter. He didn't like it, and didn't do it well. One of the reasons he went to the pros.

Van Gorder is really a good DC. I think you will be ecstatic with him. He had no chance at Auburn

This might be true, but he has alot to learn about the new offensive schemes in college football. His gameplanning for spread teams was awful, and the defense regressed as the year went on.

BVG & Willie ... meh...

Jancek was pretty good tho, especially in Fla. I think that's the main reason we got John Lily, to shore up Fla. after Jancek left...

Sal's signature swiss cheese defense looks appealing in comparison to the other names mentioned.
