Heard his name mentioned with some praise, but after looking at his resume it really seems light on actual dc duties in college. Would this be a good hire?

Was a Candidate at Auburn. I was against it. Too risky for a big time program right now IMO. Needs more experience.

Has he ever been a college DC outside of the start up years at South Alabama?

He went from there to head coach at Jacksonville State and then UAB. May be an up and comer, but I wouldn't trust him as LSU DC

He is well respected in coaching circles.

FWIW his HS defenses were downright nasty.

LINK

Here is his resume.....I would prefer some more college experience, but hey, maybe he's the defensive version of Gus Malzahn.

Dude been a winner everywhere he went. He is the only guy in this state to put the Hoover program in its place. I would figure he would the the equivalent of Gus Malzahn on the defensive side of the ball.

He is high on my list of people I'm hoping Bama brings on board at some point.

Didn't think anyone could make a winner out of UAB but he did it.

I would definitely be on board with this...There might be a bit of an adjustment period, but the guy can coach. He's been very successful everywhere he's been.

Some people can flat out coach. He's one of them.

I met him at a coaching clinic when he was creating a Prattville dynasty. Very intelligent guy and is a defensive genius. He talked at the clinic how his teams never punted. He figured if your defense is good enough you gain more possessions by going for it on 4th down and putting the pressure on them defensively! Would not be a slam dunk but would be a great hire with 1 mil. a year could start something great here.

It appears this guy has a natural affinity to coaching and coaching up defense in particular. I hear what others are saying with regards to a little more seasoning with him, but I like what I've read so far. Les could do much worse than giving him the keys to the Ferrari.

If he wants to be outside the box, this is the hire. This hire with Coach O is even better. We'll see how it all shakes out in the end.

This is a name out of left field to me.... Had not heard his name before, not that that means anything.

Pros:
Young and energetic.
Teaches aggressive defense.
Has some seasoning as a head coach to give him better perspective.

Cons:
Won't be here long. He's intent on being a head coach and will use an SEC DC position as a stepping stone.

He would be a strong B+ hire. Not as good as CP or Venables, but a lot better than some of the other names on the perspective list.

Dude can coach. Very nice and likeable guy. Would love to have him at Bama. I was at Prattville from 02-05 while he was there. His defenses thought it was a sin to give up a yard.

Cons:

You missed a few of these...

He's a guy that could be anywhere from a F to an A. He's never coached on LSU's level so it's impossible to know how he would do.

If AU missed out on Muschamp I was hoping for Clark. IMO he will be a good one.
