I don't see why he would leave for Atlanta. It would take a whole lot of $$$$$$$.

Worst Position in the NFL. Carroll would be an idiot to leave USC period, much less for the Falcons job.

I don't think so. Blank is committed to winning and from all accounts is a great owner to work for. The city sucks, but I dont' think the organization is in as bad a shape as some believe. The right coach could turn them around in a couple of years. I'm not saying Pete is the right guy, though.

Oh, there's no way I'd leave SC for that job, but if the Sad Diego job comes open soon again, that'd be attractive.

Whoever gets the job just needs to have the contract structured to where they get time to turn it around or they have a huge buyout.

It's not a bad job but will take time to turn it.

While the Falcons are in turmoil right now, the job is not that bad.
With some good personel moves things can be turned around pretty quikly in the NFL.
see -07 Packers and '06 Saints
That being said, who TF cares?

I have a feeling that after the situation with Vick, and moreso the situation with Petrino, Blank is looking for a coach who tends to have a reputation as honest and stable. Carroll has stayed at USC for what, 7 years now I think, and I don't recall any serious flirtations with other jobs. Given what transpired with Petrino, that may be his biggest attraction in Blank's eyes.

That being said, I'm not really sold on Pete as an NFL coach. I know he lead the Pats to the playoffs a couple of times, but there is just something about him that makes me think he is more of a college football guy. Maybe it is because I get the impression of him as a good recruiter. Especially now that USC is a perrenial top 10/BCS team he has his pick of players and can just restock each year. Even with a team that consistantly wins in the NFL, you have to make the most of what you have because of cap rules.

The problem you have though is trying to win over the fans and exorcise Vick. Fans are still wearing his jersey to the games. Trying to compete against Vick and the culture there is going to suck a lot. Vick represented the Atlanta fan community and they are going to feel that someone needs ot take his place.

He's making 2.78 million, he's a hero at USC, and he does much less work than he would in the NFL.

I'd agree that if he leaves that would probably be where he goes.

Why would he leave USC? He doesn't have to contend with a salary cap there.

Yup...the boosters are not limited in how much they can pay his players!
