Assuming Fisher falls through, why would Herman choose LSU over UT?

What do we have going for us that UT doesn't have more of to an unaffiliated head coach?

Serious question. What logic would lead to Herman choosing LSU in a head-to-head battle with UT for his services?

There's no way in hell we outbid them.

The ability to compete for a national championship day 1. Coaching in the best conference in college football. The challenge of going against Saban.

Unchallenged recruiting primacy in the state of Louisiana; much less dysfunctional AD and boosters; greater control over the program; no chance of being left out of the playoffs if he wins the conference.

Not saying he is coming here, but those would be advantages.

Something that gets glossed over too much, I think....UT has uncertainty in the AD position. And there is no sign that they are any closer to naming a permanent AD.

Its by no way the definitive factor, but it matters

This. People act like it's a negative but most coaches are very competitive by nature and see it as a challenge. They want to be the next hot name and what better way to do that than to play in the best conference against the best coach. He has the tools here to get the job done and that's the main thing.

More ready to win now

Can afford a loss or two in the SEC better than the Little 12

Has better talent available

Texas much larger rebuild

Didn't even make a bowl game last season and has an atrocious D

LSU consistently attracts tremendous DCs

LSU puts more players in the NFL

He knows how to scheme and beat the best and will have so much talent

He will also have more leverage and less pressure

. This is not exactly true. Saban has been able to cherry pick who he wants in many cases in LA. aTm has had success too.

At LSU Herman will not have a meddling frick like "Red" McCombs up his arse constantly. All Herman needs to do is place 1 phone call to "former" coach Strong to get a good idea of what would be instore for him as the next HC of Texass.

The Texas job requires so much of the HC, mostly his time off the field. The Longhorn Network has several coaches shows/week. Plus a lot of boosters to keep happy, so the HC is constantly flying all over the state to play in golf tournaments, speaking at luncheons, etc.

Plus an interim AD, fights between BOR and politicians, and other political land mines a coach has to navigate.

Mack Brown was a master at keeping everybody happy.
