Lightly talks about he and Matt Lubick's ties to Jeff Grimes and the SEC
quote:

Helfrich does have a tie to LSU in the form of offensive line coach Jeff Grimes. Helfrich and Grimes were on the same staff at Colorado in 2007 and 2008. Lubick, 44, has a tie to Orgeron. He served as Ole Miss' wide receivers coach in 2005 and 2006 when Orgeron was the Rebels' head coach.

I would be okay with it.

After being hired full-time as LSU's head coach, Orgeron had previously said he planned to hire Kiffin -- a former head coach at Tennessee and USC before joining Nick Saban's staff in 2014, helping the Tide capture the championship last season -- as his OC in Baton Rogue.

Has O actually said this? I don't recall him ever saying straight up that he wanted to hire Kiffin...

Nor do I. It is probably justifiably hypothesized and plausible, but unless memories have completely eluded me, I cannot recall Orgeron ever mentioning names. At all.

He'd be good.

I think that he'd be better for us than Kiffin would be. We'd more than likely get at least two years out of him.

Interesting and helpful perspectives from some at Oregon.

We all know he's worked with Grimes. At the same time, the final analysis of Grimes at LSU is still somewhat of a work-in-progress. Did Oregon have the equivalent of Craig as a WR Coach? Equivalent of Juluke as a RB Coach? Ensminger for TE?

How open to input from others is Helfrich and would the thoughts and influences of these resources allow for different schemes to be generated that are best adjusted to SEC defenses? With Craig as recruiting coordinator, is that particular dis on Helfrich a non-issue?
