This report that Alexander interceeded in the firing process at the 11th hour sounds pretty legit ! After seeing and hearing all the public reaction to Miles being fired and the amount of money involved, it did not align very well with his on-going (and true) narrative that the University was in dire need of additional funding. After the state political leadership came out toward the end of the process and started feeling sorry for ole Les, he said NO-we can't go there ! Too Bad - we have to suffer thru a few more years of this ! That's probably one of the reasons he was in the locker room when the announcement was made regarding keeping Miles.

Exactly, why else would the fricking Academic President be in the fricking lockerroom where he does not belong. John Lombardi never did this. Frick Alexander.

He probably did it bc his shitty athletic director couldn't come close to making a professional decision. Y'all mad at F King are crazy. If I were him, I'd do the same thing... Not bc I'm pro Miles staying but bc his AD led such an abortion over the past few weeks

His arse should be hung from the gallows with Alleva. The TAF can do whatever the frick they want. It is not STATE taxpayer money! it is PRIVATE MONEY!

Big money just needs to tell him buddy you will pay a price now and defund him cut off his 8 million he gets from the TAF for the academic side. let him go beg and plead the state for help.

I'd laugh if the big money guys got so fed up and said screw it and let the whole thing burn to the ground, even the athletic side(defund) just to prove a point to alleva and the chancellor and any future assclowns trying to tell the TAF what to do.

What makes any reporting on this story believable?

I seriously doubt the validity of this reporting.

He stepped in for a number of reasons.. Perception and trust being the top two.. Once the original plans fell through he felt and this is debatable but probably true that Alleva wasn't capable of making a better hire than what was already in place.. Alleva would have also probably spent heavy on a search firm which also adds to the problems of perception and trust.. Alleva seems to have been put in his place for his ineptness during the past few weeks,

Yeah but because the dollars are totally separate (university and athletics), it's very inappropriate, misleading, and a conflict of interest to pass up an opportunity for progress and justify it with academic finance politics.

It's truly a conflict of interest for Alexander. And thus, very inappropriate for him to kill anything of this nature on the athletic side.

You're Right FB-- TAF money is not Academia money-But when you are preaching this narrative politically, the line between the two blurrs--it's money for the LSU institution. The more money risk the Athletic side incurrs, the more money risk the Academic side inherits. It just does not fit with his overall narrative that the LSU institution is in grave financial trouble !!

These public sector and academic dolts have a hard time comprehending that you need to spend money to make money. The $8 million Alabama is paying Saban is the biggest bargain out there when you realize the rewards they reap by having him.

Spending 8 million on a coach isn't the same as spending 15 mil to make one go away.

That's true it is not taxpayer money, but you make it sound like just because TAF says it is so then it should be. That's not how it always works.

I think McKay is doubling down to back his claims that this was a done deal with Jimbo. I just don't find it believable that you had Jimbo locked in and the president comes in at the 11th hour and crushes it.

Now I do think once Jimbo was lost he nixed firing Les. I think we'll look back on this day years from now and say "frick we could have had Tom Herman"

Unfortunately he isn't doubling down and it's the truth. Ask yourself, "what did Jimbo do to affirmatively deny negotiating with LSU/Commit to being FSU's coach in 2016".

Indeed.
