There is chatter that he's one candidate under consideration for DC at Mizzou. Barry Odom will be VERY hands on with the defense, but we need someone who can execute his brand of defense, and work with LB and DL especially. Oh, and someone with southern ties who can recruit his arse off. I know there were issues with him in the past, but they seem to have been resolved?

Obviously, defense is our strength right now, so he wouldn't have to really build anything, just maintain/improve, and learn from HCBO. How has he been at Alabama? Would he fit the bill for Mizzou? Is he ready for a promotion? Does he have a scarlet letter from the NCAA?

TIA...

Dirty recruiter (don't have a problem with it, FWIW) out of the west coast. You can probably take some solid Ohio talent with him recruiting for you.

I honestly don't think we've ever had one of those. At least under Pinkel.

With Kuligowski as your DL coach, you don't need one

He was at Washington for a few years. Elite recruiter (landed us Shaq Thompson right away). Young. Produced some very good DL guys at Cal. When Sarkisian got hired away by USC, a story came out that when Tosh was at UW he was stuffing coffee cups full of cash for a certain recruit and was investigated by the NCAA. Nothing came out of it and he was cleared, but he couldn't stick around at UW or be hired by USC because of it. He ended up as some sort of assistant at Alabama and then was promoted to be their LBer coach after a year or two.

You do. All D1 schools do, to varying degrees. Just not on staff.

Sadly, I don't think he's going to stay. It seems as though he wants to coach in the NFL.

He was a boy wonder at Cal and other stops. Ran into some issues with regard to compliance or something but I imagine those things have passed under the bridge by now. Seems like mostly he was DL specialist - not sure how DC fits in his background.

Well then, ours suck.

Seriously though, I've never heard of anything at Mizzou other than a few cash handshakes to players from boosters after a good game. I don't necessarily want us to get into dirty recruiting games, but I would like to have some ace recruiters on staff, especially those with ties to the south.

Honestly, I think that's the issue with Kuligowski. I think he's the best DL coach in the country. He's fantastic. But Pinkel passed him over for promotions 3 times, once at Toledo before they came to Mizzou, then when he promoted Steckel to DC, and finally last year when Steckel left and he brought Barry Odom back to be DC. It seems like he thinks Kul's strengths are in teaching skills and technique, not in organization and strategy. So, it seems like we aren't going to be able to convince Kul to stay, which will be a big loss.

That's why it's important for us to find someone else who can maintain what he's done with our DL. So Lupoi is interesting to me. It seems like he can fill a couple of needs. And TBH, it will be Barry Odom's defense, the DC will just be executing his plans.

No.

Give him time though. You can't tell much in 1 year.

He is a train wreck, he begged for a job at Kutztown they did not want him. He has offended the alumni (former players) he had a school record of points given up (had 5 returning starters) The offense is a joke. The offense was almost as bad as his spoecialty (defense).

Source tells us Scott Cochran isn't the UA staffer most likely to follow Smart to Georgia. Better chance that LB coach Tosh Lupoi follows.

In what capacity though?

And as far as Kul - it sounds like he's wanting to go to the NFL.
