Is it that they want the new AD conducting the search? Waiting for a coaching search committee?

I mean, it can't be that they're keeping Hoke, can it?

ETA: I say taking so long not cause it's Monday, but because I honestly expected this to be a mid-season firing.

I would imagine they want to get an AD in place first. If it's Jeff Long, don't be surprised if Miles is a legit serious candidate.

I'm sure they want Harbaugh, maybe they're waiting for a clearer situation with him? I don't know if they have a better chance than an NFL team, but I'm willing to bet Michigan would offer to pay him even more than Saban gets if it meant landing him.

Yesterday on one if their message boards, some "insider" said they are going to announce today that they are giving Hoke 1 more year. Not saying it means anything, but that would suck for them if true.

If I remember correctly there is a difference in how much they owe him after a certain time. It just depends on how cheap they are. I think they can save a million bucks or something if they wait until after the new year.

Problem is Meeeechigan doesn't have a 1st or 2nd round pick to spare for him.

I bet Hoke gets another year.
Hard to lure anyone without knowing who the AD will be.

meechigan would be stupid as frick to wait until after the new year to save only a million dollars. You lose a lot of possible candidates.

there's one candidate that they won't risk losing if they wait too long...

This would be great opportunity for Miles to lobby for the job and have leverage with who the new AD would be. Come on Les! Its all right there in front of you!

That it's taken this long, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up happening.

Yeah, they save some cash by waiting until Jan. 1.

Dumb move IMO. They should have set a different tone months ago. The concussion BS was the perfect excuse for the AD to fire Hoke, pay the man, and avoid criticism.

It's about both the AD and the way the contracts are structured.
They have to wait and let the boosters/university fight out the AD situation. Then the AD will "search". Basically, pick the AD that will get the coach they want.

Also, there is no point in spending a mill or 2 to start now. Both guys they want Harbaugh and Miles will not leave during the season to go. (Miles has done this before.) So waiting is their best option while they fight about the next AD.

Ha...Sexton is playing all ends against the middle. Other agents, too. Putting out there names and getting clients raises. Michigan will really help a lot of HCs get more money!!

Thats a good point. They should have the next guy lined up before they can Hoke.
