Speaks highly of Chavis that he was Georgia's top choice over Smart and Muschamp.

Why would Richt even go after Muschamp? He's making 900k/year now and plans are in place for him to take over when Brown steps down. He's not going to UGA.

I'm not sure Muschamp would go to Georgia if the offer was to be the HC and Richt his OC.

Muschamp? gotta be an assistant..Duane Akina former Coordinator replaced by muschamp, worked at Auburn under Tubbs. If the plane is really headed here...

I don't know if it was the HC spot. That's his alma mater, man. His family would be closer. Texas fans would have to understand if he left to go there.

True

Which makes the idea of Richt hiring an obvious successor to him when he's trying to stabilize his own job security all the more unlikely.

Richt is making a mistake going after that dude. He was demoted from his DC duties prior to Muschamp going there. I don't know who he should go after. Perhaps pay big money for a position coach in the NFL.

So did Kirby Smart, and we see how that worked out.

Chavis wasn't our first choice, but that doesn't really matter at this point I guess.

Kirby. Here's how I think the timeline went down:

We want Kirby first but this is around the SECCG so we have to wait. He says he will consider, but must wait til after the NCG. Thus, Richt's original comment of "we'll hear something NLT the first week in january".

-Meanwhile, to pursue other options, we go after Foster first. He stays at VT.

-Next is Chavis. He shows interest but ultimately stays.

-We were NEVER serious about Koenning. KSU's people told our people that his agent blew the whole thing up in the media to get a raise out of Illinois, which he did get. Way to go agent.

-Now in January, we start talking to Grantham as a backup and he is extended an offer. This is fact.

-Kirby now declines, so my guess is Grantham is #1 on the big board. Of course, he is still coaching so who knows how long this will take

No offense, but your info has been sketchy at best...

quote:

Well, considering he has an offer on the table and has been in contact with our staff since before the SECCG, and we're doubling his salary, and he is from here and has family here, and it would be a beneficial career move...I'd say it means he's going to be announced as our new DC within 48 hours.

My understanding is that Koenning was targeted but definitely let it be known that he was not interested. That's 0 for 4 while offering somewhere between 600-700k.

Needless to say, none of this is positive.

I find it hard to believe he was the 1st choice if Richt really does have beef with him.

In fact, I'd say he was more of a interview for the fan's sake to say we made a run at him type of thing..

What gave it away? The 3 other offers they gave out?
