are starting to realize this ain't your Daddy's college football.
No knock against these schools; they have a great history and, when things go bad, we all look back and comfort ourselves with "we are........" because who we were. Hell, countries do it, but we all know Greece can't conquer the world, there'll never be another Roman Empire, and the sun does actually set on English land.
College football today is BIG business and it's looking more and more like the NFL with each passing day. Some major college coaches are making more money than some NFL coaches, college teams are threating to move if they don't get stadium improvements (see USC), players are opting out of their contracts to go to the "team de jure" (right Arkansas?), and coaches are moving faster than steak at an all you can eat buffet.
Tradition means nothing to an 18 year old who wants to hit the big payday in the NFL; it's all about doing a dance on ESPN after stopping a guy after a 7 yard gain.
Things are never the same and it's never more evident than the current state of affairs in college football.

I agree.

It is an arms race. Both LSU and tOSU are well positioned into the future.

FU I mean seriously FU.

Our getting reamed in the arse yearly by OSU DOESNT rank with Bama's inbreeding, nor ND's obscene use of alter boys.

I resent you comparing em :P

Michigan is getting their act together. The Big House is getting sorely needed renovations. However, you have to admit Ohio State took the lead in the Big Ten for this by making its weight room, meeting rooms, student rec center, and etc. as good as NFL teams. Recruits are blown away by the new WHAC and Tressel has built inroads into Georgia and expanded the pipeline into Florida. Look at our recruiting class, when was the last time we had this many big time recruits from OOS (more OOS state than in state). Highest ranked player from PA. (Pryor), Illinois (Goebbel), Minnesota (Mobley), WVU (Jenkins if he commits), and Ohio obviously. We also got the highest rated lineman from Florida (Brewster), Texas (Shugarts), and WVU (if Jenkins commits soon as expected). Look at recruits school of interest across the nation. Ohio State is the school recruits want attention from in the midwest. It used to be Michigan in the '90s. Almost all the Southern recruits that listed a program from the north was tOSU. Just wait until our '09 class when we have 25 ships to give out. Michigan looks to have got the message and will be back. That is how rivalries go.

How is the arrogance of Mich any different from Bama or ND? On second thought it is much worse. At least Bama and ND are willing to ante up for a coach. The arrogance of Mich, Bama and ND in believing it is their divine providence to rule NCAA football just because of who they WERE, puts them all in the same boat. From your reaction to my post you must know it is the truth! Truth hurts, Absolute truth hurts absolutely.

I agree that college football is a big business but to think Michigan can't recruit in todays world is a stupid statement. Look at Michigan recruiting on rivals for the last 5 years. It is one of the top recruiting programs in the nation. Look at the Michigan roster and you will see far more recruits from all over the nation. Far more nationally than LSU. I'm not knocking LSU because the state of Louisiana has tons of talent so LSU can stay home and recruit.

I am a Michigan fan and do not live in the past but there is nothing wrong with tradition. Michigan is one of the most storied programs in the country and yes that sells to recruits. Look at this debacle of a coaching search and yet our incoming recruits are staying put. Why??? Because it's Michigan.

My post had NOTHING to do with recruiting. I don't even know enough about Michigan's team to make a comment concerning how your team recruits, or the quality of the recruits.
What I do know is that Michigan, like Ohio State, has a high degree of arrogance about their "rightful" place on the throne of college football and every coach in America should fall on bended knee to beg for the chance to coach your team. If Michigan was in the SEC right now, I can assure you that your "winningess program in history" title would get severely tarnished.
My point is: there is no entitlement in college football. The landscape changes every year and conference supremacy comes in cycles. The SEC has had great success over the last 10 years and I'm sure the cycle will change at some point. Les Miles is in the right place at the right time and he knows it.

This sure isn't hurting Michigan. Their average recruitng ranking per year over the past 5 years is 3rd best in the nation (we are 4th).

What Michigan mostly is is a bunch of underachievers.
