He is 62, and might be near the end of his career and doesn't want to transition to another school...however, 62 is the new 52, so I am not so sure that he is "too old"...

Edited to add: and he might be sincere when he says he likes South Carolina because it is not a powerhouse and he wants to turn it into one.

Spurrier running to LSU after back-to-back failures at Washington and USC? I wouldn't bet on it.

Excellent point. And lately, a 3 loss season at LSU warrants execution by firing squad at the 50 yard line.

Spurrier's best days are behind him at UF. He'd be an ok short-term caretaker, but that is all.

Kind of like getting fired from Ole Miss a year after their first 10 win season since the '60s.

You are kidding, right? Spurrier, 62 or the new 52, doesn't matter, has a huge ego to feed. He knows that his best years at SC will be a trip to the Peach Bowl. This is the pinnacle of what they can achieve there.

He could come to LSU, reach over and get even more of the Texas kids (e.g., Ryan Mallet, who will be a great QB)and compete for a NC virtually every year much like he did at UF.

Spurrier did come back to go 8-4 nor lose 5 in a row. He wants to be back at the top and LSU would provide him that vehicle.

I can't see how he could have been here and at Duke on the same day at the same time. Another link confirming Duke Visit:

I think Spurrier retires at South Carolina.

He's on the verge of turning that into a great program.

IMO, LSU became a thankless job after that National Championship. You coonasses will give Spurrier or anyone else about the first 3 games of next season to 'get their feet' wet or its time to hang 'em.

South Carolina will give him 10 years if he wants it.

Beats the hell out of 3 games.
