Basically says to give him 2-3 more years. He hasn't said it, but IMO that means he has help on the way at Defensive Coordinator.

Spurrier also doesn’t plan at the moment to fire any of his assistant coaches, he told The State, although he said there could be a staff reorganization in the coming months.
“All our coaches are out recruiting. All of coaches are under contract,” he said. “Some of them may get a job somewhere else, you never know, and we’ll go from there. We are probably pretty flexible right now a little bit on the staff, but I believe that almost all of our guys will be back.”
That coaching shuffle could come after the bowl game or even after the recruiting period ends in February, Spurrier said.
“There are several openings around,” he said. “We are trying to do the best we can right now to keep working with this team we’ve got for one more ball game and see if we can’t compete at a higher level than we did the last time out. That’s our immediate plan right there.”
Doesn't sound like he's in a hurry to do anything at DC.

He sounds like he left himself an out to Grantham his guy to find another job.

He may not fire Whammy. Keep him at DC and hire an "Asst Head Coach", which is how it was set up when we had Ellis Johnson.

I feel like it could be a useful phrase moving forward

Making a statement like that at this point tells recruits he won't be there for the duration of their college years. It wouldn't surprise me for USC to hire someone like Boom who could end up being like a HC in waiting if the defense makes drastic improvements the next two seasons.

Possibly

Sounds more likely though with CEJ available.

I think it would be the spot for him to land as a DC as long as Ward isn't around in any capacity.

Good news for the SEC. The Old Ball Sack keeps it interesting.

It's more reality than you might want to admit.

That's generally how Les Handles staff changes. They are told its in their best interest to find another job. I can only recall 2 guys that were outright fired.

That being said. Definitely don't want WM at USCe
