He must be desperate for a HC gig. 2 or even 1 year at LSU could be parlayed into a BCS HC gig if history is any indication. Either way, what Walker does will impact what we do imo. I don't know if Chavis will choose LSU over Clemson, but if Walker is the HC at NMSU then he'll get his chance.

either that, or the 'leak' that Chavis is a done deal in the last 24 hours is because Walker let Miles know he's getting the NMSU job

And we'll never know (thankfully) all of the details, and complexities of how the decision was made and what offers were made to whom. I agree that Walker is a hot property right now. His thinking is probably similar to mine - the bar is so low at NMSU, that one or two years could be his ticket, IF he can show just modest success there. However, big schools are trending away from requiring a coach to have HC experience, though it will be a big boost for Walker, who I see as a straight college guy, who will be a big school HC some day.

seems to me it would be hard to go from UCLA to NMST!

The fan base, stadium, player talent, facilities, everything is like a B film..

If you like loosing, go for it

Pelini never went that route...he stayed big boy all the way

So...what are the chances Walker to NMSU, Chavis gets tired of waiting and goes to Clemson, and we end up with some third-rate solution like the one we had this year?

It's not really that different from Dooley taking the LA Tech job. He's a pretty hot commodity after only 2 years I think. Tech was a complete joke before he got there. Now they're the second best team in the state

The same can sort of be said about Urban Meyer being at Bowling Green then Utah before coming to UF.

I don't think it's a bad move for Walker if that's what he wants to do. If he can get them 7 or 8 wins that would probably be considered successful there and put him in position for a better job.

With a black AD, good credentials, and pressure in the NCAA to hire qualified black HC's, it sounds like Walker will get the job if he wants it. Come on down, Chief!!!

FWIW, I can't even find NMST message board on our Links

What conference are they in? I checked all of them

I checked "other"

Nope not there either

That is somewhat telling..IMO...Not exactly big leagues for Mr, Walker

I don't think Walker is an issue, I find it strange that Chavis supposedly interviewed twice with Clemson and still has'nt been named the DC there. I honestly think its because he's coming to LSU.

He's getting pretty old to be a first time head coach. I'd imagine Walker will take anything avalible
