Fine, understandable move there. Maybe it was time for a new voice.

But you make Doug fricking Marrone your hire? He wasn't dreadful in Buffalo, but man not exactly a big splash hire to rejuvenate an apathetic fan base.

Poor, poor Jets fans.

They don't need a splash hire. They just need a guy that can help them win again.

He had the buffalo bills in the playoff hunt with kyle orton as his QB. What the hell else do you want from him?

the Bills success had more to do with their D than kyle orton and Marrone's offense. Sound familiar if you're a Jets fan?

Also, Doug was pissed about the Orton signing, he wanted to keep his wagon hitched to Manuel's terrible self.

Doug Marrone is a good coach. Let's not forget where the Bills were just a few years ago with Dick Jauron and where Syracuse was before he was hired with Greg Robinson. The guy has a history of turning chicken shite into chicken salad.

Just an aside, but Marrone owned Geno in college. I mean, he just killed him every year they played Cuse. Then, the Bills pass him up for E.J. in the draft.

This may end awkwardly and/or quickly for Smith.

I'm with you... Marrone is a good coach. No he's not a "sexy hire", but he's a good hire and IMO will end up being the right hire.

Would Jets fans warm to an idea of bringing in just about any decent offensive coach though? They've been dreadful on that side of the ball.

I guess, but again Buffalo's success this year had more to do with its D and Orton coming in and just not fricking up. Maybe they make the playoffs if he didn't insist upon trying to make EJ Mauel his franchise QB.

they actually could have a nice tandem of WR's with Decker and Harvin. But Harvin is kind of all over the place with random injuries and some shady dealings with teammates in the past.

i think if they hired Marrone and say bring in Vic Fangio as the D coordinator they could have a decent first year with some room to grow?

Geno Smith looked a little better towards the end of the year but obviously still has a ways to go. If EJ Manuel wasn't improving all that much with Marrone has his HC, could Geno?

i mean come on.

if Marrone was hired he would probably use a West coast system with quick passes and such. The Jets used kind of the same attack with Mornhinweg as their OC this past season.

Geno has good arm but his pocket awareness isn't all that good i guess. That can lead to inaccurate passes so it kind of feels like a situation Marrone had with Manuel all over again.

course he might not even get hired... who else have they talked to so far?

Marrone is a legit coach. Buffalo is a shite sandwich of an org. Marrone will turn the Jets into contenders in two years. I'll take him over Payton or Mike Smith any day

kyle orton and Marrone's offense

In fairness, his guy was awful and he had no other choice but Orton. Had EJ been good, hed still be in Buffalo. If they do go with Marrone, I think youll see just how good Geno is. And by that I mean whether or not he is any good.

but he wanted to stick with his guy Manuel, Orton was forced upon him.

I don't think Marrone is terrible, but I don't see how you improved with the hire much either

Change had to come, Jets are at a point where the defense has enough talent that it wasn't exactly Rex doing anything special. Secondary was horrible luck and being hamstrung by the GM by signing no one of worth. Though Rex's vote almost always went to a defensive guy in the 1st, causing the offense to wither.

Idzik served his purpose, even if he helped jettison the team this season. He worked the numbers to give them a hell of a lot of cap room, while also acquiring decent pieces of talent.

Doug Marrone isn't a splash, but he's had success in the league. He has ties to the Jets, is a Jets fan, and ties to Charlie Casserly.

A lot of new HCs want their guy at QB, which is why he grabbed Manuel. He didn't really turn out as expected, but its possible Marrone didn't want to give up on "his guy" so early to sabotage the teams future. You got a winning season, congrats. Now Kyle Orton is retired and you've told EJ Manuel in a nutshell that you don't believe in him.

Wouldn't totally shocked to see him try to get Manuel if he indeed becomes the Jets next HC. Geno 4 EJ, does anyone really win

Marrone is a good coach. Had the Bills in the playoff hunt until the final week.

Usually, you need a "splash" hire when you are trying to get people back to the stadium, or fund a new stadium, etc. The Jets don't have those issues.
