I heard rumors that Sark had contacted Coach O and asked him to come back to SC. ESPN and several other news outlets are confirming it.

IMHO he should do it. The players and fans love him, and he is a damned good DL coach and elite recruiter.

If I were him, I would take a piss on the 50 yard line in the Coliseum, throw up the bird, and never set foot back on that campus.

I agree with prophet.

He should go to UCLA or any other Pac10 team.

UCLA would be the best, though.

He does seem to be respected if not loved by the kids that played for him. He's obviously pissed that they passed him over for head coach and at some level I can empathize.

I dunno if he gets another head coaching job at a major school right now tho - and a job as DC at USC is better than being head coach of a small time program (maybe even a lower tier BCS school)

Who said he would get DC? Sark already has his DC from Washington lined up for that job.

from the OP link

quote:

Sarkisian has more motivation to reach out to Orgeron after news surfaced this week that Tosh Lupoi, his defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Washington was being investigated for potential rules violations after he allegedly paid for tutoring and online classes for a recruit.

Orgeron was USC's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator before becoming the interim head coach. It was believed that Sarkisian wanted Lupoi to handle both jobs but Lupoi likely is no longer in USC's plans.

To expect him to go from being the head coach and leading that team, to not even being a defensive coordinator is insulting.

They don't care about Orgeron, they just know the players are emotionally tied to him. If Orgeron takes this job, he has effectively ate their shite sandwich and smiled for them.

Ed did a great job, and surpassed expectations. Being HC at SC is a situation where surpassed expectations and superlatives are the norm. He lost to ND, and lost to ucla. The team looked unprepared, and the required adjustments weren't made. You can't do that and be the head coach at USC, not in this day and age.

I understand this was a football team severely impacted by sanctions. When you only have 10 schollies per year, the impact of any injury is magnified exponentially. But I also understand that as much as we love Coach O that he wouldn't be a viable candidate to be the HC at USC under "normal circumstances". He'd have had to win out to have a shot, and even then it was a long one.

I hope he comes back as an assistant. It'll be a mutually beneficial situation, because the reality is he needs to continue to build his resume if he aspires to be a HC at a major program.

Sounds like SC wants to be able to say they (Sark) tried to get him back. That's it. I mean really, "'hey O my 1st choice didn't pan out do you want to come back?"

Besides do you really think Sark wants the most recent HC on staff?

Yep. Rumor has it he put an offer on the table for Coach O a couple of days ago. Decision forthcoming.

This is a fricking joke. You guys just went 7-6. Kiffin looked unprepared as hell the entire time he was at Southern Cal and it only took until now for him to get fired... but SC is "above" the guy who went 6-2 in his stead because he lost overmatched games against Notre Dame and UCLA.

Orgeron would be a great hire for the open position, but the arrogance behind your argument for not hiring him is astounding. If the Southern Cal athletic department thought the same way I can see why Orgeron didn't stick around.

He's a clown that can barely speak and he doesn't seem to acknowledge that there are rules in college football.

He makes a very good assistant/recruiter but the idea that he thinks he should be coaching one of the top jobs in college football tells you a lot about what is rattling around in that empty head of his.

Well, it's pretty funny that you think a 10-4 team just went 7-6.

Kiffin was a caretaker coach who bought himself some time with a 10 win season. With the spotlight on him the following year, he sucked. He continued to suck into this season, and he was accountable for the losses to WSU (unforgiveable) and ASU (understandable, but not in that manner).

Will he go back to So Cal or take a high monetary offer from the Hogs to be back in the SEC?

It doesn't matter me, I have no dog in the hunt. But O would be nutts go back there. He took the reigns of Kiffin's mess and made USC respectable this season. I can understand not giving O the HC job ( though I was hoping just for the comedy effect ). But at the least he should have been the very first person Sark met with and either offered him a spot or told him it would be a distraction for him to be around. Offering him this way as basically a fall back guy after his first choice is in hot water with the NCAA is insulting. Not to mention this should raise red flags for USC. The guy you hired to replace a cheater, who replaced a cheater has one of his assistants being investigated for cheating. I see more time in the penalty box in USC's future.

Arkansas offered him a job?

I will say the same thing about this that I said about Bobby Petrino. The best thing for your program is to avoid this guy. Too much baggage and shady stuff surround him.

I see SC doesn't want to stop its cheating ways...

Didn't think Sark played ball that way.

This is the Hawaii rule, right? A team that travels to Hawaii can basically schedule an extra game?
