I dont even want to consider the possibility of a coordinator, if we dont have someone announced by Wed/Thur, We're gonna lose our minds.

If not Gundy, Arkansas fans are going to want Long's head if he starts looking at coordinators and botches a hire he had ample time to complete.

It won't come to that.

We have the biggest safety net imaginable in Butch Davis...

That's more of a highwire act. Great coach and might be a huge payoff, but the NCAA might have a bitter taste after the UNC stuff. If they hold a grudge, his dirty laundry is going to surround the hogs program immediately.

The NCAA has already cleared him of all wrong doing at UNC.

Yeah, I'm not sure how either, but he was cleared back in August.

Wasn't clear of the UNC scandal at that time, was facing a possible show cause that would followed him to Arkansas at that time.

I don't think that was plausible at all. The timing was terrible and I would have some hesitation pulling the trigger on Butch that fast if I was an AD that just got screwed by his HC. Long did the right thing not jumping the gun but he needs to pull out a hire that makes the wait worth it, IMO.

They will say that. Its a dumb argument though since hiring Butch back then would be admitting we don't think we can get a hot name when a more opportunistic hiring time comes around.

Yeah, but Butch will save face before going to coordinator route, hence safety net.

He is also wanted by a couple people who write checks big enough to have their opinions matter.

I doubt it comes to that honestly.

JLS was the choice of the kids on the team. JF consulted with the team before and during the process to name an interim.

Seems like that's what they did "in the best interest of the student-athletes"

Presser is set for 8:30 tonight in Stillwater to announce Gundy's extension and raise to stay at OSU.

That raise and extension was done in season.

The way I see it:

Tubs (TT Coach)- Solid coach, experience in the SEC VS Saban and Miles, and is a safe hire. He is set to become President of the AFCA.

Dykes (LA Tech HC)- Experience in the area, exciting offense.

Patterson (TCU HC)- Might not leave TCU. Hardest to get.

Screw the "safe" 7-5 or 8-4 hire. Go for it all and give a chance to a Willie Taggart/MacIntyre/Dykes/Doeren type guy.

Why get an old re-tread that will keep you average when you have the opportunity to at least get a "4 star" prospect and give it a shot. The Urban Meyer's of the world come from somewhere, Utah and Florida did very well hiring him from a small Ohio school.

I don't see getting past nine wins with him. Wouldn't be angry about getting him, but I would be terribly disappointing.

I'm defiantly starting to love the idea of Briles coaching the team though.

Would be a great hire. Though, I can't help but think he wants to hold out for the Texas job.

Saw where Jim Washburn was fired by the Eagles today.

He's a DL specialist type, he's a character, Danny Ford brought him to Arkansas and he coached some pretty solid players while he was here and in the NFL with the Titans and Eagles.

Would be an old school blast from the past, I wouldn't mind the new coach giving a call to if Kevin Peoples doesn't stick around on the new staff.
