Kiffen WILL blow up and take the program with him down a notch. It will happen. It has never NOT happened. His good offenses at USC were full of players getting paid and now USC has suffered terribly from sanctions. He was a part of that mess, too.

This is pure unadulterated bullshite. Players at SC weren't choirboys any more than the ones at any other big time CF program, but Bush's family and later Bush himself were too overt in their acceptance of free stuff to have the NCAA let it slide.

Kiffin had NOTHING to do with any of that. His shortcomings have largely been during his time as a head coach (Raiders sucking, UT verbal diaharrea, USC HC/OC faux pas). As a coordinator he is capable of brilliance, and also sucking complete arse.

I get that it's funny that some Bama people who've been on record making fun of the guy are now in the uncomfortable position of defending him, but you've gone beyond the vale of hyperbole in your criticism of his body of work as a COACH. Not just a HEAD COACH, but a COACH.

I had this question, as an OP a bit ago.

quote:

A question regarding Kiffin developing a QB. (Posted on 1/11/14 at 12:04 am)30
Especially for those who took the time to look over his whole career.

I don't think developing a scheme, gameday calls are going to be a problem. He worked under Petey and Chow, has NFL and CFB HC experience. My question is has he actually developed a QB, worked on technique, given him the tools to make 2 or 3 reads, know when to dump it off, run, or take the sack....and the myriad lessons a QB has to learn. With AJ gone I think we will all know late into next season if he can do this or not. But does anyone know if he can do this now, or is it a big unknown?

Any ideas?

Considering he has been an OC, and a HC, I seriously doubt that this will be rocket science to him.

Teaching technique isn't the same as X's and O's.

I am going to not let my hate show through okay. I don't like the hire, and let me say in all honesty I would not want him at LSU at all. There is nothing in him that makes me worried he is at Bama nothing. Your best offenses since Sabear has been there was with Nussmier.

This has been the case for every collegiate coaching hire in history. Doesn't mean that there haven't been some disastrous hires.

He's the son of a famous coordinator and arguably the biggest douchebag to be head coach in NCAA history.

last 31 IBs- 17 wins Auburn 14 bammer. What happened this year? What happened in 2010?

typical bammer BS-

A Gus Malzahn offense put up 0 against Alabama in 2011. 0. Was he holding the clipboard for 2010s run with Cam but suddenly Chizik had it in 2011? I'm confused.

Typical barner BS-

So Kiffins basically the scapegoat for Bamas 9-4 record next year?

Pretty much this right here. Saban knows what he's doing.

Kiffen is a bad hire because his baggage is so heavy that he can only bring you down. Their offense was not the problem this past year. They averaged over 30 ppg in their 2 losses but gave up almost 39 ppg in those games. Their problem is their defense and how it is structured and that all rests on Saban's shoulders. So, to fix things, he hires Lane Kiffen.

the fact that he has to come out and defend his hiring of Kiffin is pretty telling in itself

Everyone that hires this guy thinks they'll be the ones to make him into a star. This guy is the Jeff George of coaches.

Props to him though. Guy is a hustler.

I remember how Bama fans, just like all of us, talked bad about Kiffen when he was at UT. Now he's a good guy? He may or may not bea good coach, but he is no doubt a douchebag and I am glad he isnt at LSU.

Saban knows what he is doing though.
