According to the source, Mike Sherman is also courting another well-known name to join the A&M coaching staff – Major Applewhite.

Seems odd that he would leave the school he loved as a kid.

If he leaves, for a lesser position, he must really be unhappy with Saban, becasue I doubt if he misses Texas that much

don't really understand what major has shown this year to warrant being courted by other schools. He should be happy saban didn't make him part of his staff turnover.

They say Saban is a pussycat once you really get to know the man behind the scowl.

I think some Bama fan called in a death threat to MA after the UGA game. Maybe A&M would be a healthier place to live and raise a family.

Agreed. Their offense was pretty bad this year and regressed as the season went on, but of course that's Mike Shula's fault, even though they had a better offense last year.

There's no way it could be that bad, is it?

Shula's good offense in 05 and 06 can be attributed to the fact that he was still using players that had been recruited by Dennis Franchione. Poor old Nicky boy had to use players recruited by Shula. Cleary, Shula's to blame.

The former Texas quarterback is currently the offensive coordinator at Alabama. The move isn't considered a slam dunk. Applewhite would be the quarterbacks coach at A&M. He'd have to accept a lower title and probably a pay cut.

Also from the article. He would take a lesser position at a lesser school. For Sherman to approach Major with this would be a slap in the face. Reading into it a bit is it possible that Major is so unhappy at Bama that he contacted Sherman about a position at A&M? Sherman may have someone else for OC or would have 2 Co - OC's? Wow this would be a development and a knock on Saban.

I'd love to see this happen.

Saban finding another OC would be teh greatness.

That would be crazy. Coaching at that level is all about making AT LEAST lateral moves. Unless you fell flat on your arse at your current position. Also, some may not be giving enough weight to the A&M/UT thing. A UT alum going to the Aggies? Would turn heads.

I really think Saban wants Applewhite out anyway. He just hasn't made it official.
