I vote smoke screen. Miles did the SAME thing at OK State. Called a press conference, told the media to drop it, and then jumped ship to LSU. I will take the hit if he actually is our coach come Bowl game.

Well people want to take valid information (like Michigan has been in contact and Miles' agent has negotiated a deal) and turn it into Miles has accepted the job.

Those are 2 different things and you can see how the first being accurate doesn't necessarily indicate that the 2nd is accurate.

Miles never accepted the Michigan job. My guess is he wanted to talk to Michigan, didn't want to make a decision until after the SEC championship game and wanted to hear LSU's counter offer before making a decision.

Then he got pissed off when ESPN reported that the deal was done when it wasn't. I think that he political landscape at Michigan is more than is being reported and I think that was something that Miles was never comfortable with.

And since the success of his team hear hinged on him making a decision right then (apparently the team was disturbed when they heard the report) he made the decision to stay.

The guy is loyal. He wanted the opportunity to focus on this game with this team. He wanted the opportunity to consider the Michigan offer and make a decision to take or not take the job. He wasn't given that time or that freedom.

A reporter once wrote a story saying that LBJ was going to fire J. Edgar Hoover. LBJ got so pissed off that he appointed Hoover for life.

Maybe Herbie had it right.

I'm still somewhat nervous until I hear that Miles has signed the extension and Michigan has signed someone else.

I think Moneyg nailed it on the head.

I think Herbie was running that mouth when he didn't have the shite to back it up.

LSU worked out a deal last night/this morning, and while Miles was pissed enough to come out and give a 45 second PC about it, I can assure you that Herbie's verbal diarrhea would not be enough to make Miles make a life changing decision.

That is not to say that Miles did not enjoy poking ESPN in his PC earlier though.
