I think it's a great hire. Will do well, is a player's HC, Jimbo's dominance in Sunshine recruiting will take a hit.

LSU's permanent foe just got upgraded. Here's hoping the SEC's eventual balanced schedule isn't too far away.

And give away that historical, bitter rival dating back all the way to the 90's that's proven to be a pivotal interdivisional contest LSU has with Florida?

McElwain at the time was the best OC Alabama had picked up in 30 years. I don't know what you're talking about.

I wouldn't exactly call it running him out of town, when he was offered a HC position, at a decent school...

I would take Jim in a second.

Lsu last hired a coach that was 28-21 and got beat down in bowl game. Yet want to tell Florida they could of done better. OK

Might not be the spash hire FL was looking for but Mac is a damn fine coach and recruiter and can develop a qb, something gatah hasn't had since Timmy left.

Might be a great hire but as of right now I would not be to excited about this hire if I was a Gator fan. Just sayin!

Just because McElwain doesn't have a huge name like a Gruden or Kelly (neither of which was a realistic possibility anyways) doesn't mean this isn't a good hire. This hire actually scares the hell out of me because of what I think he could do there.

If true, I like the hire. I'll never forget the game he called in the 2009 SECCG against UF. He has a great offensive mind and can obviously coach well if he can turn around Colorado State in such a short period of time.

We were never going to get Kelly, Harbaugh, or Patterson.
And I'm really glad we didn't go after Mullen or Gundy.

Good hire, but Florida could have done better. UF is a better job than Michigan, and is deserving of a coach who has already been a champion head coach at a big program.
