I'm glad Les hasn't made a knee-jerk hire

With all of the mounting pressure on Les to just do something for the sake of doing something (with the rationale being recruiting), I'm glad it appears that Les is taking his time, doing his due diligence, and trying to find the right fit for the job. Every name that pops up might simply be getting an interview, and as soon as some reporter hears it, they blare it out as if a deal is soon to be done, making it appear as though we are just fumbling through the process as certain well-known candidates move on.

Can you imagine if you had a business, and you had to make an extremely important hire (let's say your CFO), and every time you got a resume or set up an interview, the blogosphere blew up with reaction to the communication? You'd probably wind up doing something hasty that you might regret later.

As I said, it APPEARS (I can't say for certain as I haven't been involved in the process) that Les is doing this the way any good businessman would do it, only with know-nothings yelling at him every day he doesn't follow their idea of how this process should go.

100% agree....as long as the assumption that he is doing his due diligence is true...and interviewing/considering quality candidates. If all he has done is what has been reported, then I think the statement above is just inaccurate.

We'll know based on who the hire is. If it's a Haley promotion, your assumptions were wrong.

Yep, that's why included the last paragraph.

Makes sense! Looks as though he is being very deliberate with choosing the next DC. Let's hope the outcome is a good one.

Why? What if Les is hamstrung by the assistants having to stay and the candidates he is interviewing do not like that idea and don't accept his offer? Wouldn't settling on Haley lead us to that conclusion?

He's handled this search very conservatively.

If he doesn't have a hire or a hire in place by around the time the dead period ends, I'm going to start getting frustrated. There is no big reason to make the hire right now if you aren't ready, and the guys that pulled out because of a timetable probably didn't want to be here that badly or were using it as a stepping stone anyway.

What's worse? A knee jerk hire? Or a desperation hire?

I'd say they're related. What's the point?

I will explain the point, I figured you would get it. I was wrong. The point is, the later this process goes, the more likely a desperation hire happens. You said you're glad he didn't have a knee jerk reaction to hiring a DC. I'd rather a knee jerk hire than a desperate hire.
