Michigan won't wait until Jan. we won't have the Michigan coach finish the season. Also, I have a real problem with people saying it is OK for a coach to leave this program for his "Dream Job". WTF is coaching a 32-5 team to the national championship? I think it looks bad on us as a state if we lose a coach after the 03 and 08 titles. Who then will consider this there dream job?

The ways we have/would lost our coache(s) is just unfortunate circumstances. Nothing more nothing less.

I understand your concern...but I try to take a long-term view of the situation. Yes, I hope Miles stays and wins the national championship this year, but the LSU football program is bigger than any one coach, whether it is Saban or Miles or the immediate successor. Sure, I would like LSU to have a HC that stays for a long time and consistently is in the national championship picture. But, I think the days of Joe Pa and Bobby Bowden coaching at one school seemingly forever until they retire or die (whichever comes first), are unrealistic in today's college football business.

Thats the point if this plays out, then that will be 2for2 in people that apparently don't think a NC is the most important aspect of a coaching job!

so if miles leaves, and pellini takes over, and he wins the nc, he could have a career head coaching record of 2-0 w/ a national champ on his resume.

We should know something by Dec 7.
The SECCG is on the 1st of DEC and following that there is a one week dead period for recruiting.
So if Miles and MI are going to strike a deal it should come during that time.
MI can not wait much longer than that on Miles.
If hes out then they need time to move on to other coaches.

What other titles would I be referring to? Are you a Tulane fan or something?

In the original post you said the 03 and 08 titles...just clarifying to say it should read the 03 and 07 title (not the 08) (which is what it would be should the Tigers win out this season.)

LSU is on top and every good coach, especially the young ones would want to be part of that. Enjoy the success, you really don't want to stick with some guy for a long period of time (see, Mich., Penn State, Tenn, Fla. St.). An infusion of new blood, at the head coach or assistant level is essential in today's college game. Take it from UofM, we just ended 20+ years of the same recycled thing. We won some, had stability, got some good players, stayed out of NCAA "jail," but we left a lot on the table in doing it.

Don't believe that Mich will act quickly, it doesn't work that way here. They knew in Sept Lloyd was going and did nothing. Not even a list. They are gong to form an advisory committee the week after Thanksgiving. They won't talk to anyone who is still involved in conference games or headed to the NC. They would see that as inappropriate. You won't see a move from Mich until after the NC game.

Bill Martin is a real estate guy (worth a fortune, takes no salary from UofM) brought in to fix the finances and rework the athletic facilities. Oh, he will make the hire, but others will make the selection.

Many think that this Mich Man thing is BS. The three top coaches in Mich history are: Fielding Yost (KS), Fritz Crisler (OH-Wesleyn) and Bo (Miami of OH), so Mich is at its best when it ignores a Mich Man and gets new blood. That's what most of the faithful want now.

Yeah, they might contact some agents, feel some AD's out (just to keep the Alums at bay) but they won't overtly interfere with any schools season, including their bowl game, until it is over. It is just not their way.

I totally agree with this and don't understand the insecure crybabies who want someone to be here 20 years to to justify that we're not a "stepping stone." I could give a rat's arse if we hire a new coach every 5 years as long as they leave an SEC championship or 2 and a national championship in their wake. New blood and new energy is good for the soul.

are you saying you don't want to be like FSU and have some senile old man run the program into the ground?

we should hire mediocre coaches no one else will ever want

In my wildest dreams I cannot believe any coach would walk away from a chance to win the MNC!- Miles may want Mich but he will not give them a yes if it means he cannot coach in the MNC game--now if we lose to ARK or the SECCG--then he talks to Mich

Could LSU tell Miles that they are going to go ahead and start looking to protect themselves, and would this in turn cause Miles to make a statement one way or the other?

Bill Martin said a similar thing about hiring a b-ball coach. Then he took al lot of time and hired J. Belein. He gets to make the hire, but others are making the selection. They will not hurry, all of their respective jobs are on the line in hiring the next UofM coach
