Auburn fans, how do you feel about this? Alabama brings in the best college coach of All-Time. Your next 2 hires to compete with that (former assistant coaches at Auburn):

1. Former Auburn DC from last undefeated team. Former DC had a 5-19 record as head coach and had lost 10 straight games.

2. Former Auburn OC from last undefeated team. Former DC has been a head coach for one season, at Arkansas State, in the Sun Belt Conference. He did post an impressive 9-3 record this year, though.

I would be absolutely pissed if LSU hired two former LSU coordinators in a row to try to be our head coach. Especially if one of them had one year experience and the other was a proven loser as a HC. Do you really expect to compete with Bama for recruits and on the football field by hiring such unproven coaches that happen to have ties to Auburn football?

eta: added some clarity to what I meant by "former coaches".

1. LSU and Auburn are in different places right now. Saban had built LSU up to where they didn't have to hire a coordinator.

2. Auburn has actually hired two head coaches. As you said, both Chizik and Gus were head coaches immediately before going to Auburn. To call them "former coordinators" is kind of dumb, considering just about every head coach is a "former coordinator."

Dinardo wasn't a coordinator, neither was Hallman even though he was trash, neither was Arnsparger or Bo Rein (RIP).

Archer was but that was more incompetence on our part as Spurrier wanted the job.

but, not a former coach at the same school. that's what I meant by former coordinator. former coordinator at Auburn, not that they weren't head coaches.

I just find it strange that Auburn would hire former coaches, and former coordinators at that. It just seems odd that y'all are stuck on "keeping it in the family", so to speak.

I've edited for clarity. My point wasn't that Auburn hired coordinators. It was that they hired guys who had once been assistant coaches at Auburn.

So are we pissed that we hire people that formerly worked here (at a lower position)? No

For the sake of clarity, what was the last Auburn hire that didn't have success?

Chizik?
Bowden?
Tuberville?
Dye?

You have to go all the way back to Barfield...AU usually hires coaches that do very well during their tenure, although it usually doesn't end well.

I'd be pissed if Muschamp took the job after going 5-19 at some crap school and ending the year with 10 straight losses. And, then we fired him and hired Jimbo Fisher. Yeah, I'd be ticked.

Is it really that hard to go out and hire the best coach possible and not hire a coach with some connection to Auburn?

so your problem was with his record as a head coach, not that he was a coordinator. Guess what you weren't the only one who didn't like his record.

If that is your beef then there really isn't a parallel with malzhan. Glad we got to the bottom of this.

I don't really have a beef. I'm glad Auburn didn't go out and hire a proven head coach. I just think it is odd that they would hire two former coaches in a row. You can't really be okay with that, huh?

Well clearly i'm not a fan of chizik (minus 2010) so is your point to get people to go back and withdraw support of chiz?

Or because of chiz we should not want malzhan?

I say you let the guy coach a few games before you start drawing the parallels to chiz. Right now you just seem to be all over the place with no real point to your post.

Why not? Malzahn has won everywhere he has coached. Him and Ellis are turning out to be really good hires so far. He is in no way similar to Chizik.

So the issue you would have isn't hiring a former coordinator, it's hiring a bad head coach?

So now you're changing your argument?

Why didn't you just answer the question?

Would
You
Be
Pissed
If
LSU
Hired
Will
Muschamp
Next
Year
?

(Say Miles comes down with an illness and can't coach anymore)
