Steele and Orgeron together though makes for an awesome hire, esp when so many on your defensive staff were already locked in.

I think LSU fans will be pleased with the D and recruiting.

i melted when i first heard about steele.

the one thing i really wanted from this search though was for orgeron to be on staff. i got that.

i will give steele a shot. at the very least if things go bad we will at least have some badass players for the next coach to have.

LSU could have hired Steele right away if that's who they wanted

And if we had, guys would be bitching bout LSU taking the 1st guy without giving careful consideration to other possible hires. Most of the search took place during a recruiting dead period. So, what was the harm in taking our time?

Well Steele wasn't a top choice by anybody really

Seems to me he was "a top choice" by the only ones that matter...LSU. Who knows if he was "the top choice", but he certainly appears to have been one of the top choices.

Anyway, the melt down was to be expected by the emotionally challenged group. That's what they do best. Coaching searches rarely run without any bumps in the road or curves.

Spot on...Louisiana is full of French culture, look no further than France for the most miserable people in the world.

I for one am very excited for the future of the program. Only hope for BH to get his shite together and be our guy going forward.

I never even thought of that. LSU fans are so quick to waive that white flag every time they get a little nervous about something.

more accurately put.. "there is not a single FANBASE in the SEC and ACC not laughing about the Steele hire"

however, fanbases often are wrong in their assessments of coaches and players and plays called. esp since coaches actually learn, grow and change over time. no example is more glaring than nick saban who grew quite a bit after his mediocre (or poor) start in the NFL.

imo, with the right asst coaches and players, a DC isn't near as important as some fans think. like a sales mgr; the mgr may develop the overall strategy for the sales force but the salespeople will make or break him. there are exceptions to this but it is generally true.

Actually Steele is pretty well respected by his peers. Jim Johnson had great things to say about him too.
I haven't heard anything negative about him outside of Tigerdroppings to be honest.

Meh... People have the right to complain about the Steele hire. It's lackluster at best. Hiring Coach O was a smart move because it means we have a fight chance for recruits [Especially in this state].

I don't mind the criticism of Steele because his rap sheet isn't that impressive.

Yep. Not to mention, his first 2 years at Clemson were pretty good. It was the 3rd year that was bad.

And to add to that 3rd year, they were replacing a lot of starters on defense. There was an article posted from a Clemson board yesterday that said they expected the 2011 defense to be bad and were just hoping for a top-40 finish if everything came together.

It obviously didn't, and that's on Steele, but it gives some context to his time there beyond simply giving up 70 to WVU.

I think Miles has more knowledge about what LSU needs than the "fan" base. Steele is considered one of the best coaches around by his peers. Pete Jenkins who tells it like it is about coaches believes Steele is an absolute homerun for LSU. The difference this time for Steele is that he has the best resources, coaching staff and recruiting talent of his career in Baton Rouge.

Of course fans can bitch all they want, but it doesn't mean that it's the reality.
