Anybody else think the UT hire was a sideways move?

Jones was average at best in the Big East and I don't think he'll fare much better in the SEC. They probably would have been better off sticking with Dooley IMO. I could be wrong though. He might be the next Saban....

Nah, they should have hired Butch Davis. He would of put together a top notch staff and recruited the shite out of the southeast. And he would've brought a defense back to them.

Probably. Just don't know yet. Atleast he has a winning record as a head coach so I guess that could count as a step up from Dooley.

How do you define average?

Dooley had utterly lost this team, and the defense was a damn high school musical. Just mention that to say that Jones (in the short run) is a default step up-not a Strong or Patterson step up, but not lateral imo.

I think average at best describes Les Miles in the Big 12. finished 5th,4th,3rd,5th in the conference in his 4 years. never came close to winning a Big 12 title.

- 2011, 2012 back-to-back Big East Coach of the year
- 2011, 2012 back-to-back Big East conference titles
- 2-1 against Charlie Strong
- won 4 conference titles in 6 years. 1 last minute play away from winning 5 conference titles in 6 years
- #1 scoring offense and #1 scoring defense in the Big East this year. 12th in the nation in scoring D

No UT fan can bash Bielema now.

Criticize Butch all you want but don't put him in the same category as Dooley. Dooley was 16-20 in the WAC. He had never been a coordinator. His players disliked him and a lot of them didn't respect him.

Compare Dooley talking about how difficult it was going to be for three years and still trying to get his guys to play hard for sixty minutes in his third year to what Butch said today. Butch basically said our intention is to contend and that's what we plan to do every year. Is he going to do it next year? No. But he makes it clear right from the start that just dicking around isn't going to cut it anymore.

I honestly believe, and this isn't hyperbole, that Derek Dooley was the single worst hire in the history of the SEC. Completely over his head in every way. His major claim to fame was being a recruiting coordinator for Saban yet we are literally recruiting better with no head coach than we did with him. There are tons of kids considering us now who wanted no part of that joker. Read this:

The biggest problem with Bielema is his hatred for Sec style recruiting and recruiting in general.

Ut fans can at least hope Jones will be a good recruiter, you only have to be average to bring in a top 20 class at UT. There is no hope for recruiting with Bielema which is the most important thing in the SEC. I think Beilema and Arky is a bad fit. Jones and UT may be too, but there is at least hope it isn't.

I think you are correct in that Dooley was at best the worse UT hire ever. I tried to think of a worse SEC hire and I got nothing.

I realize its your opinion but its so wrong I had to log in and comment on it. You haven't been watching for very long obviously.

I could argue that Kiffin might have actually been worse than Doley what with the damage he brought to UT.

He may not be the next Saban, but I believe it was a solid hire by Tenny. I actually think that in about 3 years, Tenny will be back in the SEC championship game on the East side. I think after all they had been through , a good hire. Much better than Dooley imo.
