I've heard from several people that this is one of the best books in the series. I'm nearly finished with the Part Two: Susan chapters and damn, this is 300 pages of torture. The conclusion of Blaine the monorail was great, but since the flashback started it's been terrible. When does this thing get good again?

The flashback story is what everyone enjoys.

It's my favorite of the series. Don't want to spoil anything but I encourage you to keep reading. You won't regret it.

If it hadn't followed The Waste Lands it would've been my favorite all along.
All of them had difficulty in my personal ranking following that bad boy.

Well it took a while to get through. I lost interest and was actually motivated to try again by catching the movie when I was out town for work. I give it a 5/10. Would be been worse without the Blaine the Pain reference.
Part Two: Susan was by far the worst thing I've read in the series. But once Part 3 started it got good again.
I can't believe I'm admitting it after my initial reaction to the flashback, but I was disappointed when we left Cuthbert and Alain and went back to the present day ka tet. I would say the real turning point for me was when Cuthbert punched the sense back into Roland. The ambush scene and the canyon thinny scene were badass. Part Two aside, it may be my favorite book now
I do have questions:
Marten=Walter? I think so, but I feel like I've read contradicting things.
What are you thoughts on Susan? I wasn't sad when she died. It was a shocking death though. I'm not looking forward to reading Cuthbert's and Alain's.
Thoughts on Wolves of the Calla? I just bought it and gonna ride the motivation to try finish the series.

I will echo what everyone else has said. When I first read it I was very frustrated with the first hundred pages or so, because I too wanted the main story to progress. But I continued reading, and it became my favorite in the series. Couldn’t put it down.
