So far, I have enjoyed the TV series. I kind of got out of it once Netflix picked it up, but plan on re-starting the series.
That being said, I've read that the book series is vastly different than the TV series. Can anyone vouch for the books? They are something I'm interested in, but I believe Johnson has written up to 18 of them now.
I need some positive affirmation before I dare pickup the first few of the series to settle down with.

I can't recommend this book series enough.
It's vastly different than the tv series, but you will recognize certain plots during episodes if you read a few books.
I find the book longmire to be more entertaining and less perpetually in a bad mood than the tv longmire.
Johnsons style takes some getting used to as he doesn't use said at all. He won't say he said, or she said, which, to me, at times is confusing but you learn to recognize who's speaking.
Overall it's a great series. It's probably a little formulaic but at close to 20 books it would be hard not to be. Check out the first one and I'm sure you'll be hooked.
