My Side of the Mountain was a pretty good book as a kid.

I was a Hardy Boys reader as a kid. I certainly enjoyed My Side of the Mountain, Swiss Family Robinson, and Treasure Island also. Anything with adventure was good reading for me as a kid.

I enjoyed all those; also The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn. Started sci-fi when I was in 7th grade and read every sci-fi book in the school library.

It made me want to train a raptor and live inside a tree.

I loved, loved My Side of the Mountain. Couldn’t get my kid into it, though. Did anyone else read Joseph Altsheler? He wrote some great juvenile history/adventure series - one in pioneer era vs. Indians, another about two brothers in the Civil War. I read them in early 80s, kind of hard to find now. I didn’t realize at the time that they were written more than 100 years ago.

Yup. Think I read every Hardy Boys book that was written. Only other book I can remember is summer of the monkeys.

Between seeing this get posted and the guy on the OB posting about how he hunts with hawks, my childhood dream of being a falconer is really starting to take root again.
