It was on sale at Books-a-Million today so I impulse bought it. How does this stack up in terms of World War 2 histories?

I've only read "The First World War". If it's anything like that it will be excellent. I read a lot of books in this genre and it takes a good author to be able to hold your attention while plowing through details that can get monotonous at times. I think he does of good job of keeping the narrative going while still giving you well researched details.

Shite I didn't even know that was even a thing. I'm setting this down and ordering that first.

I've read both. And am a big fan. It's been a while but I recall preferring the second. Will probably reread both soon.

I remember Dan Carlin quoting John Keegan a lot in his "Blueprint for Armageddon" series. So I'd imagine he's pretty good.

I've read Keegan's book on WW1, which was my first book on the topic and it inspired to go on what's turned into a year long run on WW1 material so I guess I obviously enjoyed it.

On Dan Carlin, he does reference Keegan some in Blueprint but I also remember him saying he wasn't a big fan of Keegan. Anybody know why?

I'd like to know too. It surprised me when he said that because I enjoyed his writing so much before listening to DC.

Some say he writes with a a slight British bias which is perfectly understandable as he is a Brit. Just read him critically like you would any historian.

I think I remember him saying that he was too harsh on generals in WWI because they were still learning how to wage war in a modern world.
