Has there been a thread yet about where to find free books?

I'm assuming most people here know about the Overdrive app that gets you Ebooks from your local library. Even my small parish has a decent selection.

I've heard things about the Gutenberg project, but I haven't looked in a while.

What y'all got?

Did not know that. That will be handy. My old man gets everything from there.

I'm pretty sure if you have Amazon prime, you can get plenty of free books on kindle.

They at least offer me free versions when I'm ordering paperbacks

Cheapbooks.com, Abebooks.com

There are also libraries with a large e-book connection that allow nonresidents to buy memberships. Brooklyn, Houston, and Charlotte are the largest.

I thought there was a way to do this, but when I tried to lend "I've Been Watching You" to a friend, all I could do was share my progress...

Thriftbooks.com is a good source for cheap used books. Just picked up a "Lost Gods" by Brom for like $3. Hardcover.

I love overdrive for audiobooks.

I signed up at BookBub and checked all the genres I was interested in. I get a list every day on the bookbub app of all the books that met my preferences. They are all either free, 99 cents, or 1.99.

I have no patience for clicking through Amazon and reading descriptions. BB has descriptions neatly listed. I just scroll. As much as I read, bookbub makes sense for me.

Tuscaloosa Public Library has a store in the side where you can buy books for $1-$3. I used to go there habitually. That place made my to read stack explode.

Our local library has periodic book sales. Yard sales. The Monroe Symphony has a quarterly book sale. I've even bought books from Goodwill stores.

Have you (or anyone on here) tested out Brooklyn/Houston/Charlotte's selection?

Dallas's library selection is pretty crappy.

I also use BookBub. There are lots of free books on Amazon at least for Prime menbers. I just search a genre and sort price low to high and all the free ones come up first.

amazon marketplace, half.com (the books, movies, music subsidiary of ebay), library book sales, thrift stores, yard and garage sales.

Also, you may want to check out paperbackswap.com. It's not just for paperbacks.

I only buy new books once or twice a year, usually when I pre-order a book I really, really want to own.

I use 2 sites for free Kindle format Ebooks. Mostly independent authors. Both sites search Amazon daily for free books. Amazon has a notoriously crap search engine for ebooks, especially free ebooks. These sites do the searching for you. All legally free. No signup required. Updated daily. Both sites have really good filters so it just takes a few minutes each day to search for all the newly added offerings fitting your favorite genres...

Here's another site where you can spend a lot of time searching through links to numerous sites containing free ebooks. Various formats. Some obscure and off the wall stuff at some of them...

I use Houston (Harris County) public library all the time. Pretty good selection.

The public library is one of the most effective uses of taxpayer dollars out there.
