First series was a trilogy, and it ended in 2008. The new one started in 2012, and was clearly targeted at an older audience, but Nick is pretty dumb and basically cancelled it on the networks and is just going to put it online/DVD. Granted, that clip is pretty damn dark for the series, and the villains now are incredibly fricked up. Very much different than most kid/teen shows. The Earth Queen is basically a count Joffrey, so you're rooting for that guy to kill her, even if he wants to destroy the world.

Noticed something in ADWD that may tie in with one of the scenes that seemed dumb this past season. Nobody (myself included) liked the scene where Asha attempts to rescue Theon and he freaks out and says that his name is Reek and he stays. In the book, when Tycho Nestoris' party delivers Theon and Jeyne to Stannis'camp, he says, "Sister, I remembered you this time" and "I'm Theon, you have to remember your name".

Just an observation. If they do that scene the same way in the show, it will balance well with the rescue scene that we hated and make it not as bad.

Great observation .

That's a good example of a show only scene that will apply to a future book scene taking place on the show. I think that's why the Brienne Hound fight was added (besides spicing up her storyline of course). It'll be more dramatic when she goes to the QI and sees the Gravedigger. Rory McCann hasn't ruled out he's dead either and hinted at Comic Con that he's still a part of GoT.

The series has enhanced the books imo. If you are a book reader, you pretty much have to watch the show.

Definitely agree. I can't imagine one without the other--they complement each other very well. Like PB&J .

“Game of Thrones” actor J.J. Murphy has died four days after shooting his first scenes for season five of the HBO series. He was 86.

The Northern Ireland native collapsed and died on Friday, Aug. 8, according to the Belfast Telegraph. Murphy was cast as Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the Night’s Watch and commander of the Shadow Tower, and was reportedly due to film further scenes in the coming weeks.

“Game of Thrones” producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff released the following statement in regards to Murphy’s passing: “We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended.”

Murphy also had a role in the upcoming feature film “Dracula Untold,” and appeared in pics including “Angela’s Ashes” and “Cal.” The majority of his work took place on the stage, however, treading the boards at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast alongside the likes of Liam Neeson and “Game of Thrones” co-star Ciaran Hinds.

New cast members for season five of the series were announced at Comic-Con, including “Whale Rider’s” Keisha Castle-Hughes as Prince Oberyn Martell’s daughter, Obara Sand, and Jonathan Pryce as religious leader The High Sparrow.

must not have much of a story to get Jon as Lord Commander if they don't feel they need Denys Mallisters character in the show

Jonathan Pryce being in Game of Thrones is amazing.

Someone set an over/under on how many times him being in Game of Thrones and Brazil will be posted in the "Wow, same actor/actress?" thread.

CETiger, it depends on what scenes were shot. Honestly, I thought that they had set it up nicely to cut out the election altogether, so I'm happy o see that they cast Ser Denys, which implies that they are keeping the election in.

GRRM must have read this whole thread

So many readers were reading the books with so much attention that they were throwing up some theories and while some of those theories were amusing bulls—and creative, some of the theories are right. At least one or two readers had put together the extremely subtle and obscure clues that I'd planted in the books and came to the right solution.
