Same here. Although I think Sansa is going to reunite with Jon for sure.

Pretty convincing to me. I'm kind of shocked it was put out there. At the very least, it means we already know who his mother is even if we have it wrong. I'm thinking this means that, although it's a big reveal, it's not as big as Jon as Azor Ahai/PtwP/etc.

Sadly, I don't see this happening.

I started reading the Dunk and Egg novellas thanks to you good people.

One of my favorite things about Dunk is how his fights turn out in the first two stories. He isn't really a polished fighter at all. He always takes a beating, but he can tough it out long enough to get to his opponent. In the heat of the moment, he falls back on what he learned fighting other kids in Flea Bottom. Basically, Dunk wins fights because he's 6'11, he's strong as hell, and he won't give up even when he's hurt.

ETA: I know ASOIAF spoilers are ok here, but if that doesn't include the Dunk and Egg tales, I'll take this down.

The endings to the Dunk & Egg tales remind of me of the ends of the Harry Potter books. Harry/Dunk always gets knocked out at the climax and they have to explain what happened to him.

The end to The Mystery Knight depressed me. Dude refuses to let his readers crack a smile (for more than 90 seconds).

I just read it for the second time. I feel like I'm missing your meaning. Wasn't everything successful at the end? Dunk & Egg saved the day and Bloodraven came at the end. Am I forgetting something?

Ok, as I mentioned earlier, after years of jumping back to certain parts of the older books for refreshers and to look at key scenes, I'm finally going back and just rereading the whole series. Just reread the Arya POV where she overhears Varys and Ilyrio conspiring in the dungeons. Everybody knows about them talking about the need for war, but that it's too soon and Varys needs to stall, yada, yada, yada. There are tons of theories around Varys and Ilyrio's schemes. BUT, Varys tells Ilyrio that he needs 50 more little birds, but he asks specifically for children who know their letters. At the end of ADwD, he has children with him with daggers. What's up with that?

Know their letters so they can read and write, so my guess is this means he has "little birds" who can send messages via ravens. That way he can have ears in more locations than just Kings Landing that don't have to tell him directly what they've heard. That way he can know what's going on all around the realm/across the sea as he knew the realm was about to be in total chaos.

Which one was it where ya boys brains ran out his helm. I must have gotten the titles confused.

That's the first Dunk and Egg story, the other two have fairly positive endings.

Right, but the question I have is why children? My thought initially was maybe people pay less attention to them so it's easier for them to spy, but then we get the scene at the end of DwD where some of the little birds are with him when he takes out Pycelle and Kevan, and they're armed. Sounds like they're more than just spies to me; more like Varys' "Mini Me" minions.

They can get in the small places inside the walls through the secret passages throughout Kings Landing and can listen to what people are saying throughout the castle

This, plus children are easier to mold and influence to be his minions. An older spy would need to be bribed or blackmailed, but Varys's little birds are his creatures.
