Honestly, all I think that Theon wanted was a family, and upon returning to Pike, he felt that the Starks stole his family from him and that he had to take it back no matter what the cost. It was too late by the time he realizes that he was truly a Stark and not a Greyjoy all along. His remorse is that he never saw what he had before him and strived to gain the unachievable at a great cost.

Theon was truly a Stark and never a Greyjoy, which he realizes too late. I really wish they added the scene where Theon burns the letter in the book series though.

I started to and then realized tht it was Theon and any remorse he felt was only because his plan didn't work. If his plan had worked and he'd have taken and held Winterfell he wouldn't feel bad.

Again I totally disagree. I thought GRRM spelled it out pretty well that while Theon was in the act of taking over Winterfell and holding winterfell, he struggled the whole time with it morally. I also think it would have worn on him as time went on and eventually GRRM would show Theon break down from the gravity of his actions.

Ummm...maybe when the dust (salt) settles, someone will give you the ePub versions if you shoot em an email. I know Bluegrass Belle has em for sure. Check back around pg 195-200 to see who had em recently.

In the meantime, search on scribd dot com. That's where I read em moons ago.

Gotta go, The Tub scene w Dorea n Viserys is on the tube.

I can almost guarantee he dies doing it or soon thereafter. As uncliche as GRRM is, he's been setting this one up for a while. Maybe his redemption act was saving Jeyne, but I doubt it. I think he eventually saves Bran or Rickon or both, and dies in the process, having learned the hard lesson of love forged by intimacy and friendship over "love" forged by bonds in blood (or, I guess put another way, learning who your true friends are).

Ok, scene over ( she was the hottest chick on the show, IMO)

I agree for the most part with your view of Theon. If he's guilty of anything, it's stupidity, born of an ID crisis and need for Daddy's approval-but that doesn't excuse it any more than it warrants the repugnant level of punishment he recd at The Dreafort.. He made a hell of a mess, for sure -he allowed things to happen that he shouldn't have, trusting the wrong people, but also took the blame for Ramsey's psychotic arse, too. and he paid the price for sure. We aren't sure if Ramsey took the frank with the beans, but either way Balon's line is gone, the ultimate expression of a son's failure.

I don't know if he's a redemption case as much as he is a sacrifice. A warning to those who aren't equipped mentally to stay out of The Game or it will eat you alive.
Piece by flayed piece.

I enjoy a good debate, especially when it's full of passion. Take it for what it is. A thick skin will serve you well here,
cuz a good "shut your whore mouth" is always fun. Stick around.

You could read "The Ghost of Winterfell" and not feel bad for him? I was like you until this chapter, thinking he deserved all the shite that was happening to him. that chapter turned me into a heavy Theon sympathizer, and think he has become one of the greatest characters in the series. I'd say next to The Mountain vs The Red Viper, "The Ghost of Winterfell" is my favorite chapter in the series (maybe tied with Jaime saves Brienne from the bear pit and his dream in the dungeon).

You literally just named 2 of my favorite chapters. The ghosts of winterfell and the red viper were awesome. I love every Arya chapter, but love when she goes to the house of black and white and starts killing people. And I agree theon becomes one of the best characters in the book. You hate him for what he's done, then see what has become of him and you just wish they would of killed him instead. Then you want him to break free because there is good in him and he has no idea what to do with the good in him.

It's like Theon from early on is dead, Reek emerges, now Reek is dying and a new Theon is coming. Same thing kinda happens with Jamie.

I picture Melisandre taking over as soon as the Brothers stab Jon and her preparing for or waiting for her fires to tell her when to perform the ritual to resurrect him.

Do you guys think she'll have much of a chance? It's no secret that most of the night's watch don't like her or Stannis' men. I can see there being a large fracture between the night's watch/stannis' leftover men/the wildings. Jon was the only thing holding everyone together and that was crumbling. I see things falling apart at the wall and quickly as long as Jon is down.

Bran living and remembering what he saw would've meant the death of Jaime's children as well. So you would allow another mans child to live so your three children could die?

Season 1 episode 1 was on last night.

I haven't read GOT in probably 7 years. I forgot how much I miss Ned.

Anyone have that bad arse pic of Ned sitting in front of the tree, cleaning Ice?

What in pluperfect hell are you rambling about? I've been around and not once did I get my hackles up with the debate. I decided not waste my time trying to convince Tiger, if that's what you're talking about. There has been one time when I've gotten my hackles up on this site and it was during a debate with Baloo. I guess I have no idea where this is coming from.

You mean this one, from the 2009 calendar?

Artist's name is Micheal Komarck. He has a bunch that you've prolly seen: Jaime all cocky on the Iron Throne, Sansa building WF out of snow, etc.

that calendar art here:
LINK

There is a still somewhere of Sean Bean in same pose w Cat in foreground from the show, but I can't find it...

ETA: This site has some pretty cool ASoIaF artwork, too. Enrique Corominas is a good one, rest of the artists can be accessed on menu on right (above Martin) I'd recommend starting with "Official Artists" as some of the Fan art is well...fan art. LINK

Its hard to fend off attackers after a direwolf has eaten off a bunch of your fingers.

Actually from the story he seems like giant wuss.
