Not a big reader, but I'm halfway through Ready Player One and can't put it down. The last book I liked this much was The Martian. Any other good books in this genre y'all recommend?

The Windup Girl

Great book. He does an incredible job with the setting (dystopian Bangkok)

RPO was a great book.

Try Snow Crash.

Snow Crash is good I just think Neal Stephenson is too full of himself.

Also Leviathan Wakes.

Fantastic sci-fi book and it's a series so if you like it there's 5 or 6 more. I've read the series and enjoyed it.

The expanse series is fantastic but I don't think it's anything like RPO at all really.

I'd suggest Snow Crash as mentioned for the sci fi and comedy mix.

Another decent choice might be the Insignia trilogy by SJ Kincaid.

Perhaps the Vorkosigan Saga as well.

Ah. I've never read RPO, just The Martian. I was just thinking good sci-fi page turner.

Just started Ernest Clines second novel, Armada.

So far pretty good.

It's considered "young adult" but I think that Cory Doctorow's Little Brother and its sequel Homeland are both fantastic. His book For the Win is also really good. All near-future dystopian cyber punk with a heavy dose of nostalgic nerd culture (Homeland has a scene where the protagonist is at Burning Man playing D&D in a tent with John Perry Barlow).

You should read more. You're off to a good start. Try some classic literature...Dickens, Melville, Tolstoy, etc and early 20th century American, Fitzgerald, Hemmingway, etc. You'll be presently surprised at what you learn.

If he's asking for books like RPO and The Martian, I would suggest that he avoids pretty much all of those authors.

I recently finished Saturn Run. Sci-fi based, set in the not too distant future (2065), 95% backed up by at least theoretical science.

This, I enjoyed this as much as RPO. He gets a little long winded on a few parts, but the series was very funny at parts. I thoroughly enjoyed the first time they talk to each other through thoughts only. "Don't think about Heather's boobs."

Going to try Off to be a Wizard/Magic 2.0 series next myself. It's suppose to be pretty decent. Will eventually read Snow Crash too.

If you like RPO check out his other novel Armada.

Just finished this weekend. I liked it more than I did RPO.

Good and amusing book. Even though it's a super villain/superhero story, the humor is very similar to stuff like RPO and SNow Crash.
