Does all of the initial publicity of this incident (where absolutely no charges have been made) ever come out in a world of no World Wide Web / College Athletic Internet Forums? College Athletes and Coaches have to be very aware of what they say and do everywhere now...As a few hours later, it could turn into a 100 page Internet thread. Plus, we all know that the local news outlets troll these sites for insight and have the opportunity to blow it up.

I'd be shocked if RP ever even saw or heard that particular post. I imagine he's heard by now that people are talking about him and that a lot of it is negative. Of course, people have been talking negatively about him since before he got here. That comes with the territory, and is way more than balanced post-for-post by every single comment about how awesome he is before he ever did a single thing at LSU. That's the nature of fan commentary on public figures, particularly sports figures. I think the unjustified negativity sucks, but I don't think it's any more irrational than the unjustified postive comments. I think the fact some people here seem to enjoy negative commentary more than positive is just a reflection of the populace of this particlular board (and maybe others, I don't know; I don't visit any others much). It certainly does not in any way, shape or form seem related to any particular attitude towards the players, and certainly not to any particular player. It's the same attitude that has them bashing Miles when he's 7-1, and trashing Skip Bertman when the Athletic Department is enjoying unprecedented success. What I do see going on here, however, is a different reaction to a player who has already demonstrated poor judgment in a highly visible way with serious repercussions (multi-month suspension) than one would expect had it been a player we had not heard of being in trouble before.

BM is the manager and the older brother. He's a former Texas A&M student, NOT Bama like someone claimed above, so it's not a "OMG, Bama's screwing us!" deal. The brother, whom I graduated HS with, is a bartender there now. He is supposed to be in the Marines but never deployed and no one has the exact story on why that is.

And that just covers the fair scrutiny. The reality here is that Ryan Perrilloux has been under far more heightened scrutiny than almost any other previous offender in Louisiana history not named Edwin Edwards. And the fact that he has been under that scrutiny, fair or not, changes the guidelines for what constitutes good judgment or bad judgment. Consider: if you are being followed by a cop, it is a significantly more serious breach of good judgment to speed at that moment than it is at a time when there is no cop following you. Whether the cop is following you fairly or unfairly does not change this. It may raise a host of other issues, but it does not change this reality. And if you do speed when the cop is following you, it is a much more significant example of bad judgment than someone else speeding at some other time would be. And that is the reality of RP's situation. He knew that because of his super-recruit status, his participation in the season so far, and his prior run ins with the media and the law, that he was under far more intense scrutiny than either you or I, or even any other member of the team. Anything remotely approaching good judgment in that situation would put him far away from confrontations, bars, drinking and certainly anyone with a criminal history like Odom. The fact that he might further have also participated in a fight and possibly even come back to "settle scores" would just be further off the deep end of stupid. But he certainly passed good judgment long before closing time at the Varsity.
