every magazine and analsy that i have seen.

USC DOES have a tougher schedule than use this year. It's not b/c their schedule at a neutral field than ours, but our home/road rotations line up greatly in our favor this year. USC has most of their tough games on the road this season.

Not doubting you, but which magazines specifically are you referring to. I simply haven't seen that anywhere.

USC has nobody with similar talent or even top-10 talent. LSU has #3 Florida, and #9 V.Tech., not to mention the SEC C.G.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?
I don't have any idea why people worry who has a tougher schedule BEFORE the season. So often the "supposedly" hard games end up being easy. Teams often underachieve... and vise-versa. Who cares who says USC has a tougher schedule? When all is said and done USC never ever ever ever ever ends up playing more ranked teams in the final standings than LSU.

I will argue past schedule strength (and do often), but to argue upcoming Sched. Str. is speculation... and I leave that to other people.

When the 2007 college football season is over I guarantee LSU will have played more ranked teams than USC.

I think most of those people that say USC has a tougher schedule are referring to OOC games. But thats like an NFL team saying "We are the best team on monday nights!" Well... great... unfortunately there are 16 games a team plays in an NFL season and some teams are lucky to play 1 monday... some may play 2 at best. So bragging about Monday nights ain't that great.

So let USC brag about their tougher(arguably) minute portion of a season. We'll brag about our tougher FULL season.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?

one more ranked team than USC? Big deal.

I actually have to take USCs side on this...Have you seen their road schedule this year?

AT nebraska, AT washington, AT notre dame, AT Oregon, AT cal, AT arizona state.

A couple of those teams arent as good as they have been in the past but still....its tough to go to oregon or nebraska and win...and look at cal, they have USCs number every year and they have them at home this year. USC could EASILY lose 2 of those games.

Using Rivals preseason top 50, LSU play 3 teams ranked higher than anyone USC plays, not including a probable top 10 opponent if LSU plays in the SECCG, including no. 5 Florida, no. 11 VT, no. 12 Auburn. VT is projected by most to be a top 10 ten, and is the projected conference champion of the ACC.
USC's away schedule:
At ND, projected by many to be a 6-6 or 7-5 team, but Rivals has them at no. 31 (probably too high in my opinion). Frankly, should not be a close game.

At Washington - no style points there. Not even in Rivals top 50 preseason. Lost their last 3 home games, including a loss to Stanford, the worst team in a BCS conference last year.

Oregon - generally decent at home, but they managed to lose badly to Arizona at home and got blown out by BYU in the bowl game, finishing last year with a 7-6 record. Should be better this year (Rivals no. 32), but still should not be all that much of a challenge to a team as talented as USC no matter where they play. No more of a challenge than playing at Bama (no. 37).

Cal: Could be a decent away game for USC. Style point there. (no. 13)

Nebraska: Could be a decent away game (no. 18), USC wins.

ASU: Finished 7-6 last year. Not in the preseason Rivals top 25 (no. 28). Decent, but should not be that big of an obstacle. They were ranked higher when LSU played them in 05 in LSU first game with new coaches and in the aftermath of Katrina.

USC will not lose 2 of those games, one at worst and probably none.

Other top 50 games: UCLA no. 25, OSU no. 34, Arizona, no. 48

LSU plays no. 5 (Florida), no. 11 (VT); no. 12 Auburn, no. 24 Arkansas, no. 29 South Carolina, no. 37 Alabama (road); no 38 Kentucky (road).

Average rank of opponents of the top 5 games (which includes all teams ranked in the top 30 plus ND at 31) for both teams (rounded):
LSU- 16. USC- 23. Average for all teams played by each team in the top 50 (7 for each team): LSU - 22, USC - 28.

If you add in the SECCG, if LSU makes it, the SECE opponent will in all likelihood be in the top 10. Using a 10 ranking, LSU's top 5 opponents then average 12 v. USC's 23.

I would put LSU's games against no. 5 and no. 11 as tougher than any game that USC has, home or away. So LSU still has a tougher overall schedule when looking at the top 50 teams each team plays. And if LSU gets to the SECCG, LSU will have had a significantly tougher road than USC, having played a schedule what will have a strong probabilty of including 3 final top ten teams by season's end to a probable none in the top 10 for USC.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?
The problem is the way the calculate stregth of schedule. Last year is a good example. We played four teams that were in the top ten when we played last year on the road. No other team even smelled four games that tough. However, they average the ranking of the other teams you play to give a S.O.S.

To illustrate, lets look at a two game schedule:

Suppose LSU played the #1 team in the nation in game one, and then they #110 team in game two.

Suppose USC played the #30 ranked team in game one, and then # 50 in game two.

Who would be more likely to go undefeated? Which schedule would you prefer? I would definetely prefer USC's in this scenerio. However, their S.O.S would be higher. Its bullshite, but it is what it is.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?
Geaux Tahel......couldn't have said it better myself. Bottom line, USC plays an PAC-10 schedule vs. LSU playing an SEC schedule.....no contest. As the 2007 season will prove once again, LSU will have played more ranked opponents than USC just because we are in the SEC. I don't give a shite who they play in their OOC opponent schedule, or where they play them. Michigan, Ohio State, USC, and Notre Dame were mentioned daily by the national media at the end of 2006 season in determining top rankings.........then came UF and LSU in their respective bowl games.......again, no contest.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?
USC doesn't have a tougher schedule just because some of their games are on the road.

quote:

AT nebraska, AT washington, AT notre dame, AT Oregon, AT cal, AT arizona state.

Who gives a rats arse about Washington on the road. Just because USC has a tough time against Washington on the road... doesn't mean playing Washington on the road is tough. ND on the road.... HA! You think if we played them in Indiana we would have lost to them in the bowl instead of a neutral site? NOPE! ASU on the road? Huh? Is that tough? Again just because USC has a hard time against those cupcakes on the road doesn't make them tough. Try playing Auburn and the cheating refs on the road. Or Tenn. Fla. Oh and Nebraska isn't nearly the team they used to be.

VT at home will is tougher than any USC away game. And as mentioned earlier... LSU will have played more ranked teams by the end of the season than USC. I will put cash on that.

Phil Steele, for example. I believe he as USC at #2, and LSU in the 50's. Now i think that the gap should be MUCH closer than that, but like he says pre-season measures are always flawed anyway.

you can't assume that in preseason SOS rankings....which is why i think it is retarded to get so worked up over preseason rankings of SOS anyway. It carries alot more weight halfway through the season.

No shite. We don't play them on the road this year, and miss both Tennessee and UGA from the east. Last year our schedule was brutal b/c of the impossible gauntlet of road games. This year it's favorable. Next year will be brutal....just like it was in 2006 and 2004.

I think LSU deserves their lofty ranking. That said, we did shut Auburn out at home. Of course SEC apologists will claim they weren't very good that year. Even though they brought a few of those same players back next season and went undefeated in the SEC.

I'm not a big proponent of "running up the score" but to be honest, if we don't blow out teams we should beat handily, I can see more ridiculous criticism of our football team this year.

I'm not worried about being "the best of all time"
or any of the other media acoolades, to be honest.

I'm just happy we'll field a talented, competitive team this season capable of beating anyone, anywhere. I don't think it's a stretch.

And it's not such a bad thing, especially given where we were before PC came along.

re: Why do people say USC has a tougher schedule that LSU?
I love the way that LSU is selected as having somewhat of a tough schedule on the years we end up playing a gauntlet of SEC opponents on the road, but the years we play them at home we are nowhere to be found in the SOS. Yet EVERY year USC seems to make that top 5 .........because the PAC-10 is just that tough, and so much credit is given because they play ND and Nebraska.....like they are fielding the same teams like they had back in the '80s and '90s
