(Posted on 1/23/10 at 11:22 a.m. to LST) I say no to Elton John and Stevie Wonder (someone mentioned him a page or two back). These two are/were amazing songwriters and entertainers, but not great singers. +1 for Freddie Mercury, Johnny Cash and Sinatra being in contention for tops. Agree that Chris Cornell is up there, too. Others who might be contenders depending on criteria: Bing Crosby (smooth and cool) Ozzy Osbourne (bat shite crazy but was a very good rock singer) Not quite elite level, but popped into my mind when thinking about Cornell... might be worthy of consideration for new school rockers: Scott Weiland.
