re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Doing it on a 2 point conversion to Dickson. Book it

We'd be just rubbing it in at that point.

I would like to see it more to back up the safety. When Shep comes in they creep up. Throw the fade, even if is out of bounds it will make the D look for it.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
The problem with two quarterbacks has seemed that they are too predictable, and too stilted...such that the come on and off the field to try a plan, then go back off the field.

I think with RS on the side, as another poster mentioned, as an option, a lot more plays COULD go his way very easily. If they just do it every once in a while, it would be very effective.

And yet no one stops to think about what could happen with a true freshman throwing the football.

That is why you throw a fade. Hit your guy, or hit a cheerleader.

Just watch

2:20 in particular, but the two minutes before it sets the table for EXACTLY why I want him to throw the ball once.

because they (as experts) have already determined that that is one of the things that is holding this team back. being an armchair ( and video game) head coach is where it's at. actually expeience and knowledge of football and team personnel is overrated. god bless 'em. it really is a shame that youth is wasted on the young.

ok, i'm ready for the senility comebacks now.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Every time RS is in the backfield, he will be "RUNNING" the ball. So an opposing Defense can easily stack the box and limit his production. But if he throws the ball even once or twice, then the defense must respect the pass and cant just load the box or crash in as fast.

That small amount of time or one/two fewer defenders is all RS needs to break open the run. It would just give him room to run, because he's a terror in the open field.

Similar to the play action pass. As long as the defense is worried about that pass they wont crash in as fast until they are certain the QB doesnt have the ball.

Good post.

I'm with you, I don't really care if he throws or not, I just want to see him with the ball in his hands.

Let's think about this for a second. JJ has thrown it 193 times and yet defenses still stack the box and don't respect our passing game.

But one or two passes from Shepard will get some respect. Got it.

The real title of this thread should be: "Why are you & some 'people' so hard up to NOT see Shepard throw the ball?"

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Because I have more confidence in others throwing the ball. I just don't see how the climax of the season, to some (not saying you), is to see Shepard throw a tailback pass or wildcat pass. If he does, great...and I hope it goes for an 80 yrd TD to Tolliver.

Meanwhile, just put the ball in his hands.

Agreed.

I can only speak for myself, but my motivation is to give us the best chance to beat Alabama, a team that has a great defense, today. And, I truly believe if Ala. has to respect Shepard passing the ball, it would do that.

I want Miles/Crowden to call a few (even short route, but not over center) pass plays for Shepard, which could turn into rushing plays for him anyway. This game, obviously, is as huge as it gets for LSU, and this is exactly when you gotta take some "chances," by doing things Ala. hasn't seen.

I may be crazy, but I'd like to see Shepard w/Holliday return kickoffs (hopefully not too many) instead of K. Williams, and also put him in the end zone on long field-goal attempts. As you said, "just put the ball in his hands."

Gotta put the laptop away. You at the game as well?

Pisces, you know the cast majority of posters on this board are all about sensationalism and knee jerk reactions.

Always have and always will

So your assuming the same situation about drastically different players with drastically different skill sets.

Im talking about RS outside the pocket as a run/pass threat. Lets say Im a coach. I would close down on RS everytime he is out of the pocket until he gives me a reason to believe he can hurt me with his arm. Id leave those WR on an island in 1 on 1 coverage.

If I felt any danger from his aerial attack I may leave a man dropped back in a zone coverage.

That small difference may be all it takes for a player like RS to hurt you.
