Breakdown of this game
LSU passing game vs Alabama Secondary: Advantage LSU

When Jordan Jefferson gets time, he finds the open man. Brandon Laffell, Terrance Tolliver, Ruben Randall and Richard Dickson are all big time targets and together might be the best in the conference.

LSU running game vs Alabama Front 7: Advantage BAMA

LSU hasn't been able to run between the tackles all season, and while Russell Shepard is a threat to bust one at a moments notice, it seems highly unlikely there will be much of a consistent running game established.

LSU O-Line vs Alabama Pass Rush: Advantage BAMA

Huge advantage Bama actually. This spot is the reason most people will pick Bama to win. If JJ doesn't have time to throw, LSU's passing game advantage is moot.

Alabama passing game vs LSU secondary: Advantage LSU

Julio is a load to bring down, but he has to get the ball first, and that's been a problem of late. Mcelroy has become overly maligned but this is clearly an advantage for LSU.

Alabama running game vs LSU front 7: Advantage BAMA

The LSU front 7 has been solid most of the season and improved significantly since the early part of the year, but Mark Ingram has carried this offense all season and Saturday will be no exception.

Alabama O-Line vs LSU pass rush Push

The LSU pass rush has produced consistent pressure all season. Though the sacks haven't always been there, the last few weeks they have become more frequent.

Special Teams: Advantage LSU

Pretty much a no brainier here, LSU has one of the better special teams units in the conference if not the country, and Bama has shown to be vulnerable here.

Coaching: Advantage BAMA

Saban and Co aren't as good as the public at large thinks, and Les Miles isn't as bad as the public at large thinks, but this is still an advantage for Bama, albeit not a huge one.

Intangibles: Push

Both teams have a lot to play for, both will show the have the heart of a champion.

Prediction: I have no idea who wins, but the final score will be 17-13.

I'd have to go with a push here. Bama's OC has been shitting the bed lately....he's already been called out by the fans.

re: Breakdown of this game
So an LSU fan is saying that LSU has less advantages than Bama? I agree with every point you made, very accurate assessment.

However, even with our sub-par kick coverage, we still have Javier Arenas on the receiving end to balance that out. And Leigh Tiffin has been surprisingly consistent for us lately. Not saying that we have the advantage, but I think it may be closer to a push than an LSU advantage.

There's a reason Bama is favored, doesn't mean we can't or won't win though.

If I told you right now that one team was going to make a huge special teams play, who would you think would be the most likely to do so?

IMO it's an even thing, really. Hasn't Arenas returned one to the house against LSU the last 2 years in a row? Or 3? I forget, sorry. Holliday is damn fast though, so like I said, it's pretty even.

I don't really care what he did or didn't do last year or the year before, he has no kick returns for a touchdown on the season and we've been pretty good in coverage, much better than Bama has.

True. I'm just saying that Arenas is a special talent on returns, and you can't ever overlook him.

LSU will stack te box and play man. I think the Bama running game vs. LSU D will be a push. The winner of that match up will be a key factor in deciding the game.

Not saying he isn't, just saying we have very good returners too and your coverage units are more vunerable than ours, hence: advantage LSU.

re: Breakdown of this game
in truth, neither team can afford to overlook anyone on either side.

qb's is a push.
rb's adv bama (better to have 1 steady back than a stable and trying to find the hot hand.)
ol bama
wr lsu

def line bama
lb push (totally different schemes)
db's lsu

kr i will go with a push, arenas is a special player

pr push

kr covereage adv lsu
pr coverage adv lsu

intangibles:

this is developing into a heated rivalry, and bama is taking auburns place amongst second most hated team.

1 thing to note, as nasty and physical as these games are, they are usually very clean games, i.e. no pf, eye gouging etc, i hope that trend continues.

the key to the game for lsu is which offense shows up. we know our defense can shut them down, the question is can our offense move the ball?

i predict a low scoring game, lsu winning 14-10, with 1 of the td's coming off of special teams or fumble/int return, the other either off of a defensive play, or a to inside the bama 20.

Reasonable, objective posts ... good stuff.

It should be a great game, one of the most important of the season; lot's of emotion and fun ... what we wait for 364 days of the year.

Anything can happen, and probably will.

re: Breakdown of this game
I think that's a pretty fair assessment, but I don't agree with the special teams being an advantage for LSU. Bama's kick coverage hasn't been great, but they are very good at every other aspect of special teams.

re: Breakdown of this game
The difference is Bama's ability to disrupt our offense.

If the game stays true to form- the LSU D will successfully "contain" Bama's offense. However the bama Defense has the capability to BLOW-UP our offense.

This results in a field position advantage for Bama that will be tough to overcome. Bama works with a shorter field all day because bama blitzes cause too many three and outs.

I still think LSU wins. But my reasons aren't rational.I'm a Democrat when it comes to LSU football, totally emotional

Did you change this? Seems like it just said ADV LSU? Anyways, I disagree with it being a push or an LSU adv. Bama is 12th in sacks allowed and LSU is 91 in sacks. That is a Bama ADV. Other than that, looks pretty good. Good job.

So is LSU. CJ showed he has moves as well as TH. Our Kick coverage has been very good as well. We have TH and CJ with very good kick coverage, thats why its advantage LSU

Probably, but that's like saying the worst part of Jessica Alba's body is...fill in the blank). I've been very impressed with our improved secondary play, and it has a lot to do with the pass rush were getting.
