Here is my story of getting scammed last year.

several times posters have tried to scam me, but on the whole, 99% of the tigerdroppings posters are honest hard working people who like to help out other tiger fans, a guy bought 4 of my tckets to a game in 2007, my seat was in the row
in front of the seats, after the game he called and said that I had sold him fake ticket{my tickets came from the ticket office} and he wanted his money back. when I told him that I had sat in the seat in front of the ones sold and that his friends sat in the seats until halftime, because the game was a runaway, he hung up and was never heard from again, yes, he had paid the price printed on the ticket.

Use a U.S. Postal money order if buying tickets and if they are not received, it is mail fraud.

I contacted a person posting on here saying they were in Atlanta and weren't going to be able to attend any games this year. All I had to do was pay them a deposit through Paypal and then I'd get the tickets in August when he received them. After insisting that he sign a contract, meet in person, that I wasn't paying half of the cost up front, and that all of the posters on TD.com would likely require the same thing he never contacted me again.

Thought you were talking about me for a second, but I never had anyone insist on that set of rules. I sold most of my season tickets to a guy on the board here. He asked me how did he know he could trust me and that he would get the tickets. I told him he didn't. Paid me a deposit and then the balance when I got the tickets before I mailed them. He got his tickets in the mail from me about a month ago.

I wouldn't mind doing paypal and emailing the tickets, so long as the buyer pays those fees.

Boy oh boy, the ticket office really pisses me off sometimes. I know a few people posted a suggestion last year about before you buy tickets form someone over the internet you could get their information & call the ticket office to atleast confirm that they were a season ticket holder. Well I sent the following email to the LSU ticket office last night & this is the response I recieved this morning:

-----Original Message-----

To: Athletic Ticket Office
Subject: Ticket holder question

To whom it may concern,

I am in the process of purchasing a set of season tickets from a supposed season ticket holder for face value. I was wondering if there was any way you could verify that this gentleman is infact a season ticket holder? His information is as follows:

Name: **************
Address: ***********
Phone #: ***********
Seats: *************
Email: *************

If you could verify any of this information it would be greatly appreciated. I just want to confirm that this gentleman is infact a season ticket holder. I don't need specific information about the seats. I know alot of people get ripped off buying tickets from people they don't know every single season. I'm just trying to protect myself the best I can. Thanks so much & Geaux Tigers!

-------------------------

Response:

We cannot give out or verify our season ticket holder(s) information.

We also never advise purchasing tickets through any outlet other than www.LSUSports.net, the ticket office directly, or the LSU Ticket Marketplace. These sites are the only sites LSU confirms validity for tickets.

Thank you for supporting LSU Athletics!

post date the check for two weeks after tix are to be mailed .. then, when you are given the tix, call the ticket office or go by to make sure they are legitimate tix ... if the check clears anytime before that .. this is on the bank and not you .. so, trust me, they won't cash it at all ..

This is all great advice to protect the buyer, but what about the seller. No one wants to mail the tickets and then the check bounce or something else...so it's allways going to be a tricky situation if you can't meet in person.

The main thing that always concerns me when buying tickets is that even if they are legit, the seller (providing they are the actual season ticket holder) can have new tickets reprinted by LSU at any time, up until the day of the game in fact!

I always ask for the account number and call the ticket office. They can't tell you much, but I simply ask if the account is 1) legitimate, 2) is in good standing, & 3) doesn't have any reported stolen tickets. They answer those questions but always caution that the ticket holder can have their tickets reprinted, to purchase through their website (Marketplace), etc etc.

Lastly, I always meet in person but lately I pair that with having the seller invoice me via PayPal with detailed ticket info for item description, cost, quantity, etc ahead of time. Then meet where we both have access to computer, make electronic payment, and I get tickets.

There is something uncomfortable with a stranger knowing you are showing up at a place with hundreds of dollars.

They will tell you this: We cannot give out or verify our season ticket holder(s) information.

I am familiar with the link that Baconismeatcandy posted.

If you fill that out, they will forward the info the appropriate police dept. If the Admins are willing to give you the IP that was used by the scammer that would expediate things.

I almost had the same:

Some guy wanted to make a great deal on U of Wash tix. Wanted me to pay by Western Union when they arrived. Got cold feet. Later found it was common trend.

Bought from StubHub and paid $150.00 more for the 2 tickets but I got them and they were legit.

Ditto. I live in Denver. There are 3-4 games a year I won't be able to make. And usually 1 game a year I'm looking for tickets. I generally use PayPal or meet in person if the timing works out. Haven't been burned yet.

I bought tickets to the Arky game in 06 from an Arkansas fan. Used Paypal to mail the payment. Received the tix 3 days later. Great seats but we were in the HOG fan section. FWIW those people were very decent to us.

You can usually tell if you are being scammed by the attitude of the seller. Never got taken on EBAY either.

This sounds like the guy - the guy I spoke to said he relocated to Miami, former LSU grad and his dad, just deceased, was a professor in Architecture at LSU. Basically the process he described was that to go to grocery store with western union/ in this case went to minute money in Miami and that money would not be released until the FedEx guy showed me the envelope with the tickets, an authenticated letter from LSU and a parking pass and once I reviewed that I would sign a release form that he had to release the money. What happended is the money was released immediately when did the minute money transaction, he gave us fake fedex tracking number as well.

This guy JUST called me with almost exact same story except wanted me to use the debit card isntead of Western Union for the transaction. I suggested going through ebay or an internet site while on the phone that protects us both but he refused and when I told him I wasn't comfortable he became almost rude and very hurried. Just to let everyone know that he is still out there as of Oct 6... Be careful.

Craigslist add - 4 tickets to LSU UF $450. Section 643.

He wants western union type stuff. I asked him how he got the tickets he said "I got them just like everyone else. I didn't know you had 2 live next to the stadium for tickets."

He showed me a legit looking photo of the tickets...FWIW
Thoughts?

I doubt someone would sell four tickets for that low a price
