We used to wear them back in the day, but we wouldn't do that. Just to prove my point, here is what Saban said about the Blackout. "Those kinds of things only means something if you let it. Like those old Notre Dame teams that wore green jerseys and that means you're not supposed to beat them. Or Joe Theismann talks to them Friday night, you're not supposed to win that game. If all that does mean something to you, I guess it's a problem. But they have good football players, that's what we're concerned about, not how they dress." It was a joke.

I also seem to remember one reason was to have a contrast with the home teams helment to make it easyer for the qb to see his receivers. That may or may not be true.

LSU did not open with Bama in 83.....but they did wear white helmets...
