Former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel defended his Aggies’ "12th Man" on Instagram by taking a shot at the Seattle Seahawks's "12th Man." Manziel wrote “REAL 12th man #GIGEM” referencing the fact that the Seahawks lifted the tradition of calling its fans by that name and pays Texas A&M $5,000 per year to use the phrase.

It was never about the money. The mere fact that Seattle pays A&M *anything* acknowledges that Seattle understands A&M owns the trademark. That settlement was all about keeping the brand from becoming meaningless due to others picking it up.
