We live in a day and age where our kids walk away with a trophy win or lose. The "Everyone Wins" philosophy is up for debate on whether it teaches our youth what it takes to win, but the Keller Youth Football Program in Texas has made the choice in only giving awards to the winners. Via GMA...

“Going forward participation medals or trophies will be going away. KYA Football board feels that giving participation medals or trophies isn’t sending our children the right message,” the association wrote in a Facebook post. “Life does not give you a participation job or medal, life makes you earn everything you get,”

I'm over the Y Football program and I've been doing this for 5 years. I've yet to give a trophy to a team that didn't finish 1 or 2.

Back when I played Little League, 1st through 3rd got awards. The lesson was if you didn't place you needed to work harder and get better. As a result, I don't get suicidal when things don't go my way. Trophies for showing up has built a sense of entitlement.

I think I'd do that for kids starting at like 10. Younger than that, it's all about getting them active and feed their interest. Kids love medals and ribbons at that age. I am not preparing my 3 for "life lessons" at that age. Just trying to get them to go to friggin bed!

Nothing in life is handed to you and you need to learn this early on or you risk becoming just another entitled self hating leech on society

I agree. This worlds full of people looking for handouts. Teach kids to bust their butts and earn what you get.
