Iowa's Coach Ferentz Eliminating Punt Returns?

I guess Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz can do whatever he wants with a contract for 10 years and roughly $39 million, and a buyout that would pay him 75% of his remaining salary monthly. So if he wants to get rid of punts, he can. After Michigan State successfully ran a fake punt against him on Saturday, the Hawkeyes coach said he was strongly considering never having his team return punts again to defend against future fakes. On Tuesday, he confirmed he was serious...
quote:

“If you pressed me today, I’d say we may never try to return a punt again. To do that, to block guys, you have to turn and go with those guys to shadow them. When you do that, you open the door. Michigan State did a good job of taking advantage of that.

“What helped us a couple of weeks ago [wide receiver Kevonte Martin-Manley's two punt returns for touchdowns vs. Western Michigan] we paid for on Saturday. It cost us a field goal and a possession. So yeah, I may be leaning toward the point where you never try to see us return one again. Just fair catch it and try to keep it off the ground.”
Ferentz needs to go. Iowa has been a mediocre team at best for a few years now while this guy gets amazing amounts of money.

The Cat - Wrong. He is not that great. He created a bunch of buzz (relatively) long ago and is living off that. He is a slightly above .500 coach in a league that typically has 2 or 3 strong teams and the rest (including his) are very beatable.

He would be mediocre anywhere he goes because that is what he is.

If this guy was in a talent rich state he would be consistently pull out 10 wins. He isn't great at recruiting out of state though, but that may be because no one wants to move to Iowa.
