Today we will look at another freshman prospect that could have an impact for LSU this season. Aaron Epps is a 6'9" 210 pound forward. While predominantly playing center in high school, Coach Jones and staff are in the process of transitioning Epps into a tall shooting forward. This transition is similar to the one Jones and company established last season with Jarell Martin.

Last season at Tioga High, Epps averaged 22.3 points, 11.2 rebounds and 6.7 blocks. As a track star, he was district and regional champion in the high jump as well as the state runner up. However he brings more to the table than his high flying abilities. His transition to the wing is because the coaching staff describes Epps jump shot as "one of the purest shots on the team."

While the transition will be a tough one for Epps, he has the physical tools to be able to contribute from both the 3 and 4 positions. A minor off-season surgery left Aaron a little behind on his perimeter development, but Coach Jones has been happy about the work Epps has put into learning his new position.

What to expect from Aaron Epps:

Epps' athletic ability is unquestionable. He is a gifted athlete. He also comes to LSU as an honor student at Tioga. Epps will try and use both his athletic and mental capabilities to contribute as a freshman, which I think is very possible.

I'm expecting somewhere around 10 minutes per game for the freshman. His ability to play both the 3 and the 4 will be valuable to a team who will be looking for SEC ready players come January. His offense may lag behind, but I'm looking forward to having both Epps and Mickey in the lineup; two players who can jump out of the gym and will block shots. I think with the addition of Epps and Robinson to the squad, LSU could lead the SEC in blocked shots.

Epps will have some work to do to get his offensive production up, but LSU has a prospect in Aaron Epps that could really be useful in certain matchups. His combination of size and quickness will be nightmares for many wing players in the SEC.
