LSU has a whole new back court this year. Yesterday we looked at LSU's projected starting point guard Josh Gray (spotlight HERE). Today we look at this year's starting shooting guard Keith Hornsby. The 6'4" transfer sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, but was able to practice with the team.

His freshman and sophomore seasons were played with UNC-Ashville, where he became known for his impressive shooting abilities. His sophomore year, Hornsby show 38% from three point land and 92.5% from the free throw line. He averaged 15.0 points per game and was held under 8 points one one time all season.

His best games were against stout competition. Against the two top 25 teams he played, Hornsby averaged 24.5 points per game and made 10 of 14 three pointers. He quickly became a veteran leader for this young LSU team and has the respect of the team due in large part to his work ethic.

While his shooting statistics stand out, Hornsby's ability to get to the rim as a 6'4" guard sets him apart from previous LSU guards. His first step and his ability to finish at the rim are assets that will be used often from the off guard.

Over the summer months, Gray and Hornsby were able to forge a special on-court relationship feeding off each other's success. Their love for being in the gym have helped them gain a feel for where the other is which will be important for an offense that will be bringing in three new starters.

While sitting out the year was hard for Keith, having the extra time to work on his game and develop his skills will undoubtedly be beneficial to him and the Tigers.

What to expect from Keith Hornsby:

Keith Hornsby is a game changer. His ability to shoot or get to the rim makes him very hard to shut down. He gives LSU a go-to free throw shooter who you can expect to make over 90% from the charity stripe. But Hornsby brings just more than an impressive ability to score.

Hornsby brings a leaders mentality to the team. A guy who works 100% all the time. I wouldn't be surprised to see a guy who will score 15 points per game out of Keith Hornsby. He also brings the size and strength to play tough defense on opponents.

I'd also expect to see a lot of Bruce Hornsby in the PMAC this season. That's just the way it is.

Geaux Tigers!

I feel really good about our free throw shooting this year. Which really excited me. I've always found FT shooting a guage of how dedicated a player is to his craft. I could see at least 1-4 all shooting above 70% from the line. As a team I wouldn't be surprised to shoot above 70% which would be a major improvement from recent years.

Under coach Jones we have shot 66.9% (last year) and 62.5% (two years ago)... I see it continuing to improve.

I swear South we could have a team of 2 year olds and you will still make excited for the season. Its either you or the fact I love basketball or Im super excited to see all the new faces and how good they will be together. I really hope our free throw shooting will be solid this year. And I am super excited to see hornsby play he has the size and athleticism to be a great player and it seems like he is in the right mind as well as Gray seems to have the right mind set. But great write up love what your doing for LSU hoops.

A strong and powerful 2-guard is something lsu has certainly lacked. I expect an immediate impact from Hornsby. If he can penetrate with that first step quickness, it will open up big play opportunities for Mickey.

I really enjoyed the first video in this article. I didn't know that Bruce was going to be coming to most of Keith's games nor did I know Bruce was a big basketball fan. That will be really cool to have another celebrity in the stands.
